Exactly what OJ said. Tags are for describing an item, so they are helpful to everybody, not for venting someone's opinion / hate / love, etc.

Thanks for reporting. I've just deleted the tag at hand and sent a warning to a user who added some of those tags.

Granted, insulting tags like "slut" and "bitch" should be removed, and I'd say the same for "scum" and "I would do her". On the other hand, the word "trash" about an actor or actress is a negative remark meaning tasteless and unprofessional, but I don't know if we should remove it, as I don't see it as especially offensive.
Besides, "stage 5 clinger" is a tag for TV shows, so I take it to mean that a character in the show plays a "stage 5 clinger".
However, I am not an English native speaker, I am not sure how offensive that tag may sound.

You got me all wrong. Like I said, ridiculous tags like "I would do her" and suchlike are to be deleted, and they will be deleted. Actually that sort of rubbish has been removed before and users got warnings and bans for that very reason. In the last few days I personally deleted dozens of offensive tags and have "tag banned" ten users who added them (meaning: they can't add tags any more). So, your and others' reporting *is* useful: please do not give up! The problem is, as usual, cleaning up takes time and effort, currently there are fewer active moderators than there were in the past, and moderation tools are somewhat clunky. Maybe moderators' obscure work should get more visibility, anyway, to avoid unfair comments.

i'm sorry, but could I have at least been sent a warning before disabling my ability to tag or been told or have explained what not to do? feel like over all i'm not stepping on anybody's toes here. sorry again

You can understand what not to do from the ban reason you were given: do not add offensive tags like "slut", "ho"...
You can figure other similar tags by yourself, or take a look at the reports in this thread about insulting and pointless tags.
If you clean up the offending tags you added, anyway, please let us know and the ban will be lifted.

every tag I've posted is arguably pointless, my ratings & opinions as well. my outlook, what offends me might not tear tissue with you or vice versa. where are the tag guidelines? opinions differ among people enough and so much. are hot, sexy, funny bone, milf, cougar, smokes weed, american, or scientologist offensive? where is the line? i'm sorry & not meaning to be argumentative, honestly just looking to find out what all needs removed. was not given a ban reason either, saw I could not tag earlier, the only thing I am basing this off of is what I've read on this post, which is my first time in these forums or any forum at all. In other types of ban the user can see the reason that was given by moderators for the ban, so I (incorrectly) assumed the same applied for tags too. Too bad that's not the case. Thanks for pointing that out.
Actually users only see this message: "A moderator has disabled your ability to add tags".
Next time I'll send a message to explain.

As to the tags to avoid / remove, I already gave you a couple of examples, "slut" and "ho", two of the tags you added on a person profile. So, please avoid that kind of offensive language.
Other tags that strike me as inappropriate that I noticed on your tag page are, for instance,

"Retard"
"not A Fucking Retard Like Michael Bay"

Even after the bans, you have been the first and only user to actually cooperate and remove the tags, so far. Thank you! Of course your ban has been lifted.

I think when this has been discussed before, we reach a fairly broad consensus that anything that is not based in fact really doesn't belong. So "Boring" may not be offensive, but that is an opinion. That is where the actual lists come in: make a list of boring people or movies, etc. Otherwise, facts (i.e., birthplace, awards, year of release, religion, etc.) are what actually adds to one's ability to sort by tag.

wasn't aware of that 'tag page' until your link, thanks. most of these tags were in film references or said by the person or in quotes I've read, so I can't take credit for most of or any irony you're talking about. also a lot of these tags I have not read in three years, but I've deleted all you listed and more I just assumed, is that any better or could the ban be lifted? thanks.

@AvidAdmirer As a user I only add fact tags not opinions. As to moderation though I think we have to focus on the "no-no" tags, such as outright insults, offensive language, sexist remarks, racial slurs, hate language, completely pointless words, spam, flooding (there is a guy who posted some 2,000+ "holy shit" tags!).

Besides, I've asked Tom to mass delete all the tags by a couple of users who added hundreds of "I would do her" and "Hot pussy". Removing them manually would take forever! There are 700+ "I would do her" alone.

Yes.. me too. No idea how many people are doing it or what it is they are trying to accomplish. At first I though height, but then things like "5-18" wouldn't compute..

I've cleared a few of those up. I'm hesitant to delete the "gibberish" ones though because there isn't a system in place for private tags. I've even used a few tags myself that basically only have meaning to me. If I had the opportunity to make them private I would.

Some of the characters with this tag are especially disturbing as they are primarily known as being under 18. (And probably some actual people too, but there are definitely underage characters floating at the top of the character versions of the tag.)

Not "horrific", just dumb. Some of those have been entered more than once so somebody might be creating multiple accounts to spam this stuff. Like a character or not, long opinionated tags like that are pointless. This isn't Tumblr.

I can't post tags at all and I don't know why. I used to enjoy adding my own tags back in the day.
