A welcome entry to the Star Wars canon
“The second standalone Star Wars anthology movie after Rogue One in 2016, Solo: A Star Wars Story certainly endured a bumpy production period, exacerbated by worrying press coverage. With director Ron Howard coming aboard late in the process to complete filming and reshoot a bulk of the feature, and with certain vocal fans sharpening their knives in preparation for the end result, it appeared that almost everything was working against Solo, but the resultant movie actually works, thanks to a charismatic cast, astute scripting, and focused filmmaking. It helps that The Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan co-wrote the screenplay, collaborating with son Jonathan to hatch a history lesson about the titular scoundrel several years before his fateful meeting with Luke Skywalker. Movies Watched In 2018 - To Infinity & Beyond! (365 movies items)"Thankfully better than the awful The Last Jedi, this movie is about the young Han Solo and how he came to meet Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. It also tells how he came to acquire the Millennium Falcon. The movie is solid, if a bit predictable at times. The big difference compared to TLJ is the plot has a flow to it with no stupid side-stories that make no sense and pathetic attempts at humour. There is plenty of exciting set pieces with some nice twists thrown in. The cast is great with Alden E"
Movies Viewed in 2018 (361 movies items)"The second stand-alone Star Wars movie is a flawed but fun romp with Alden Ehrenreich stepping into the shoes of Harrison Ford as the rogue bandit Han Solo, showing his origins and how he meets and befriends Chewbacca. The action is fine and the performance is full of energy yet this troubled production does suffer from an uneven tone and coming out far too close to The Last Jedi. Entertaining enough but not the best Star Wars film."
