A young American couple, Michael Pappas (Peter Gallagher) and Cathy Featherstone (Daryl Hannah) who have just graduated from college, go to Santorini, a Greek island for the summer and are dazzled by the beauty and the uninhibited people surrounding them. Michael meets and begins an affair with Lina (Valérie Quennessen), a French archaeologist working on a dig. Cathy discovers this and goes to confront the other woman. When the two women discover that they are drawn to each other, the three lovers find themselves forever affected by the most passionate and inspiring summer of their lives.
