The eccentric Gregorics leaves all his wealth to his son born out of wedlock and not to his greedy relatives. The old man's red umbrella, something he always carried with himself, finds its way to the trader of assorted goods. Müncz places the umbrella over Veronika, sister of the recently arrived priest of Glogova, a little child left unguarded in the rain. The villagers attribute the deed to Saint Peter.
