"All three actors playing the main character were good. This was a better version of Boyhood."
"Occasionally thematically simplistic, but overall an intriguing and complex character drama at heart, this film is well acted and well shot, and has bursts of genius. 8.7/10"
"Sometimes undeserving films get incredibly overwhelming praise and hype. As for the nearly unanimously praised film Moonlight, the hype is entirely warranted. An achingly symphonic, deeply moving, work of art. Barry Jenkin's direction is sensitive and mesmerizing. Ending on a note of such beautiful compassion, Moonlight is truly magnificent. "

"6 February. A very bold movie that leaps out from all African-American movies. Defying convention with a poetic, rather offbeat approach to its subject matter. Three stages in a life: a boy, a teen and an adult. A sexual identity crisis gets confirmed and blossomed towards the end. I don’t think they’d love this one in the tough hoods, but this is big-time drama of a high caliber that would be hard to ignore. "
"01/31/17 Directed by: Barry Jenkins Overall this is a nice film but there's just too many consistent problems: 1. The pacing is jank like most modern films. Given the passage of time throughout the film I think it should have been probably about half an hour longer. There just wasn't enough time to get fully invested during any of the chapters. 2. The score often doesn't fit, even though the music itself is pretty nice a good chunk of the time. 3. I really don't like how the film looks. I d"

"28/1/17 Exceptional drama set in three sections and following the journey of a black boy through to manhood as he deals with bullying, a junkie mother and his own sexuality. Beautifully filmed and with some superb performances, this takes the cliches of living in poverty and turns them all on its head."
"January 24th Directed by: Barry Jenkins Whoa it's Oscar time. I'm not sure why I still do this to myself, I've realized, especially after watching Moonlight that no matter how good one of these movies is, it's never going to impress me because I just don't like the format. I don't like the way American cinema is in 2016. Honestly the only Best Picture nominated film I'm looking forward to is La La Land because it's meant to emulate an old film, and musicals are atypical of the style these days"
"Certainly deserves the praise that Moonlight is receiving even if not quite up to the insanely high standards that the critics are throwing on the film. Still one of my favorites of 2016, will cement a place in the bottom half of my Top 10 list I believe."
