"Just plain gripping. Might not shine like a "Citizen Kane", but more honest than most Hollywood productions. Has one on the edge of their seat all the way through even if they do know what happens in the end. I've had relatives who have suffered frost-bite/gangrene the way Josh Brolin's character does in the film, in real life. It's just as excruciating (and hard-to-stomach) as the way the film depicts it."
“In my opinion, Baltasar Kormรกkur has a rather mixed track-record as a director but this movie sounded really intriguing and, on top of that, they managed to get a impressive cast for this movie. Anyway, it was a really ambitious project and it thought that most of it worked pretty well. Indeed, I have always been fascinated with movies dealing with climbing, it is probably due to the fact that I'm afraid of heights but, even so, there something actually spellbinding to see some people risking their life just to get on the top of a mountain. Maybe there is also a little bit of sadism involved as well. Anyway, I especially enjoyed the realistic approach they chose for this movie but I'm afraid it never reached the level of 'Touching the Void', still by far the best movie in this genre.
