When I heard that my uncle wanted to watch a movie about the tragedy in Utøya, I thought he meant the movie '22 July' directed by Paul Greengrass also coming out this year. Anyway, it doesn't really matter since it was such a powerful movie and easily one of the best I have seen this year. We meet Kaja (18) 12 minutes before the first shot is fired at the Utøya summer camp July 22nd 2011, which soon is to be the worst day in modern Norway's history. They know about Anders Behring Breivik's bomb in Oslo, but is he here now?

"SCREENING: Regular DATE: October 27th CINEMA: Picturehouse LOCATION: Greenwich NOTE: Meant to take the train and double-bill this with They Shall Not Grow Old in the 26th so I could finally have some rest the next day, but was driven instead despite of the heavy traffic. Didn’t know there wouldn’t be ads, and ended up missing the beginning. Came back the next day despite it being more expensive at the weekend."

Anyway, it doesn't really matter since it was such a powerful movie and easily one of the best I have seen this year. In my opinion, the greatest success of this movie was to show not only that the guy shot more than 170 people but, above all, the impact on the 300 remaining survivors who will be psychologically traumatised maybe forever. Indeed, for more than an hour, they have nowhere to hide, they have no idea about what is really going on, who is attacking them and why, and if someone will finally show up to stop this nightmare. In the mean time, the shooting keeps going on and they do see other survivors running a” read more

Bml93's Film Experiences for 2018 (120 movies items)

" U - July 22 is an extremely difficult film to judge. Based on the horrific events that occurred on Utøya island in Norway, were one man shot and murdered 69 people, most of them youngsters (in addition to being responsible for a bomb attack in Oslo earlier that day). Norway is quite a safe place to live, so that something as gruesome as that happened here is confusing, shocking and something that I'll never truly be able to understand. It's therefore a difficult film to judge because the event"
