True Blood (2008)
The best vampire-related thing out there, in my opinion. It has the perfect blend of sex, violence, and gore. It's also a heartfelt story about love and relationships and a thoughtful insight into discrimination.

The Sopranos (1999)
A brilliant television series. I was really surprised by how good it is. Despite the fact that Tony Soprano is a racist, homophobic, murderer, he somehow has redeeming qualities that make the show arguably the best gangster-related production ever.

United States of Tara (2009)
A fun, quirky show that deals with a woman's often hilarious struggle with Multiple Personality Disorder, more formally known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. Toni Collete's portrayal of her character's various "alters" are tastefully and believably executed, never straying into stereotypical representations of a 50's housewife, teenage girl, and rude-mouthed male trucker; they have their own personalities and goals. Overall, a fine dramedy.
Donald's rating:

Nurse Jackie (2009)
Probably the most depressing show on this list, Nurse Jackie chronicles the life of Jackie Peyton, a no-nonsense veteran nurse with an addiction to painkillers. Although Jackie is surrounded by people who love her, she is inevitably going to cause pain to alienate them all.
Donald's rating:

The Vampire Diaries (2009)
While hardly comparable to True Blood, the Vampire Diaries does have its strong points. It follows the travails of high schooler Elena Gilbert and her relationship with the vampiric Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon. An engaging, plot-heavy twist-filled program.
Donald's rating:

Parks and Recreation is hands-down the funniest show I've seen in years. The scatter-brained yet efficient Leslie Knope heads a parks department that is filled with colorful characters and ridiculous misadventures that will definitely keep me watching.
