Off with Their Heads [Vinyl] - Kaiser Chiefs
35. 2008 One of the greatest live bands, and their music is fun.
Backspacer - Pearl Jam
34. 2009 PJ cracks the list...A raw bland of Pearl Jam that also reminds me of going to NYC to watch the band play at Madison Square Garden.
Furr - Blitzen Trapper
33. 2008 Like the Fruit Bats, both Sub Pop, they have a mellow under the radar cool sound.
Brothers - The Black Keys
32. 2010 Recently starting to enjoy the Keys. Not because of their commercial success, ive known about this band for years, I really like their new style of this album... 2010 produced some great music.
Broken Boy Soldiers - The Raconteurs
31. 2006 My favorite Jack White project were these guys.. Just hope they can get together in the future and jam out another album.
Congratulations - MGMT
30. 2010 Many MGMT fans were turned off by their second album... However, I deemed it the best album of the year. The more I listen the more I love it.
Icky Thump - The White Stripes
28. 2007 Burned this album randomly at Emerson's during Lollapalooza 2007.
27. 2007 First movie I saw at the Partridge Creek theater. Very good movie, but can't say enough about how Ed put the soundtrack together.
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Spoon
26. 2007 After searching for the next Kings of Leon (Band that exploded in my rotation) Forty nominated these guys for the band to look out for in '07... Nice Work.
Favourite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys
25. 2007 Before this album was released Forty and I passed up an opportunity to see these guys at Clutch Cargo's. Maybe it was the 25$ tickets that turned us off. What a mistake.
Only by the Night - Kings of Leon
24. 2008 This was the album, and 2009 was the year the Fallaway Kings finally blew up in their homeland. Started this tour with small 3000 seat venues and ended headlining every festival in the States.
Day & Age - The Killers
23. 2008 There was a time where this and Only By The Night were the only 2 albums I was going back and fourth from.
Employment - Kaiser Chiefs
22. 2005 Ricky Wilson has more energy than anybody I have ever seen. If Forty would have got up in time for a 2:30pm performance at Lolla, he would have seen Wilson climbing the stage tower, predicting a riot.
Z - My Morning Jacket
21. 2005. Only saw these guys 3 times before I finally started to like just one of their songs (Off The Record). They are in the studio as we speak and I can't wait for their new album and tour to hit.
The Rhumb Line - Ra Ra Riot
20. 2008 This album reminds me of driving through the mountains in Wyoming.
Good News for People Who Love Bad News - Modest Mouse
18. 2004 Fact: Float On was the single song that turned me onto a whole new world of music. Who knows, Without it, maybe the top 50 could have featured Lady Gaga.
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace - Foo Fighters
17. 2007 Have you ever had a song stuck in your head while running up and down the court playing basketball? One time I kept singing Long Road To Ruin while driving the lane passed B. Evens.
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
16. 2008 I was going to use the story on how this reminds me of Frodo's Wedding, however I would be wrong not to give a shout out to the guy who pissed on my leg in the rain during Lollapalooza 2009.
Wolfmother - Wolfmother
15. 2006 I almost saw a guy getting trampled at a Wolfmother show in Detroit. I went to lend the young lad a helping hand up, and it was Forty. Andrew Stockdale was wearing Kev's hat off the stage. I knew these guys were gonna be a success when they made it on a video game called Guitar Hero. Also, same lead singer, new band, still jam!
Sam's Town - The Killers
14. 2006 Forty will read this as quick as possible and continue with #13. However, you knew I would sprinkle come Killers on this list. For some reason I connect this album with the movie Borat. Very Nice!
Consolers of the Lonely - The Raconteurs
13. 2008 Ferg used to walk around the Central Michigan campus with a backpack and the largest headphones. That is all.
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
12. 2008 I learned to cook while listening to this album. Mandy used to come over and bake pasta dishes for Paul and I, but that has nothing to do with this album.
Weezer (The Red Album) - Weezer
11. 2008 It's about time we get a new color out of these guys. Brad and I panicked when the band started belting out My Name Is Jonas at the Palace and were forced to quickly drink our cola's as there were to be no beverages on the floor. Meanwhile, Paul and Forty happily sipped away on their tasty treats in the front row at a medium pace.
Youth and Young Manhood - Kings of Leon
10. 2003 I think i'm starting to like these 80's looking, raw sounding, Tennessee rockers.Really started getting into this album around the 1st ever Forty Slug-fest.
Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not... - Arctic Monkeys
9. 2006 Have you ever been hit with an air soft gun? I have, and it hurts. Although it was Jeremy Steere who turned me on to these guys, it was Mike Brick who first blared Fake Tales Of San Francisco at 4:30 in the morning while I was trying to sleep. But thats ok, Forty and his mystery partner (Which happened to be myself) won the 2006 Center Street Beer Pong Championship earlier that night.
Aha Shake Heartbreak - Kings of Leon
8. 2008 Another shout out to Mike Brick, as he had me reed the Stu Unger book in 2008. I read this entire book while Aha Shake Heartbreak was on repeat. One time Forty and I were meet up at Best Buy and we decided to go eat at CiCi's.
Oracular Spectacular - MGMT
7. 2008 This album is what I like to call a game changer. Love what these guys are doing for music. Will mostly remind me of the fall of 2009.
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
6. 2006 "1 word - Potential." Is what Ferg said after listening to this album for the first time in May of '06. I would never say Pearl Jam has returned after this album because they never went anywhere! I graduated college the week this album was released, but will mostly remember it for the badass tour that followed. The Forty-DeMer concert Duo began its run with an amazing performance at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Evil Urges - My Morning Jacket
5. 2008. I was forced fed this album during Forty Fest '08. First impression, I did not like the direction this band was going. In the words of former Fab Fiver Jalen Rose "You can't rush greatness."
Hot Fuss - The Killers
4. 2005 During a trip to Mackinaw City, PT, CT, Forty and myself had a journey for the WWE and WCW championship belts at 2 different Mini Golf locations. What a battle. Also, PT and Forty pushed a canoe that was supposed to be a decoration into a real pond. We were not invited back into to the local gift shop. I hope you enjoy these stories because when I release this list to the public the comments will be gone.
One by One - Foo Fighters
3. 2002 This was always a pump-me-up album. For some reason I used to bring my boom box into the bathroom when I took a shower and Jam All My Life. This was before the time of the IPhone. Ferg doesn't have a car.
Because Of The Times - Kings Of Leon
2. 2007 Driving around a lake with a buzz. Rushing through Grant Park on a 99 degree day in August. Having the most brutal 7 game series of Basketball at Willow Woods, where Forty left with a possible broken nose. Working at pool where I would make 3 phone calls a week to Mandy in hopes she would bring me a Cheezy Gordita Crunch. Gathering with 11 close friends in a parking garage just minutes before a Kings Of Leon concert and doing a massive shotgun. These are a few of the many things of which this great album reminds me.
It Still Moves - My Morning Jacket
1. 2003 "Who the hell is My Morning Jacket?" I said to Forty during our 2 hour drive from E. Lansing to Grand Rapids to go see MMJ open for Pearl Jam at Van Andel Arena. "I asked Vince Cannova, my good friend from 89x, and he told me these guys are pretty good. " Forty replied with a gleam in his eye when talking about his favorite radio DJ. Forty threw in the album and I was worried we were wasting time not listening to PJ. The Forty/DeMer dynasty, as well as the My Morning Jacket dynasty, officially began that moment, and thus we have the best album in the last 10 years!
My Favorite albums of the last decade...
