Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
Jamie Fraser

What does he do to earn this title?

1. He marries a strange Englishwoman who is clearly out of her time simply because it's the only way he knows that he can protect her.

2. He sacrifices himself again and again to protect that Englishwoman in spite of the fact that she clearly is trying to get away from him on several occasions.

3. He blindly believes a story that is WAY past the point of imagination in the time that they're living in, just because said Englishwoman swears it's true.

4. He's a long haired, red headed, six-pack bearing, Scottish brogue sporting, kilt wearing Highlander. If nothing else, that's enough to win him a "better than normal" lable!

(And that's only the FIRST book, mind you!)

Four/Tobias Eaton

What does he do to earn this title?

1. He goes practically secret agent on his own faction in an attempt to discover the plot they are creating against his old faction to avoid the destruction that he knows is coming.

2. He puts himself out on a limb as much as he can to try to protect his initiates from the extreme new rules of the initiation period.

3. He sacrifices himself several times over the course of three books in order to keep Tris as safe as he can, while at the same time understanding that there is no way to control her.

4. He overcomes a childhood of abuse and abandonment, and forces himself into those same situations on a daily basis in simulations as well as in face to face encounters with those who abused and abandoned him, in order to help his city and save as many people as he can.
