August Rush (2007)
Can't watch this movie enough times. Love the music intertwined with the love story of a child looking for his parents.
Joe's rating:
El Dorado (1967)
Hadn't seen this one in a long time. A classic western with John Wayne and Robert Mitchum with a good dose of humor thrown in.

Man on Fire (2004)
Watched this great movie again.
"Creasy's business is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece."

Joe's rating:
A fairly unrealistic portrayal of a group of foreigners breaking into the whitehouse and kidnapping the U.S. president and several other senior staff while murdering hundreds of secret service agents and civilians.
Gerard Butler plays the hero who used to be the president's personal secret service chief that due to an unfortunate accident was no longer working directly for the president although still a secret service agent. Circumstances are such that he ends up being the only agent on the inside .....

The Words (2012)
Being an avid reader as well as loving movies made this a very enjoyable movie to watch. It really underscores the power of the written word.
This movie revolves around one man taking credit for another man's words and his own self judgement knowing that what he did was morally wrong.
How do you live with yourself when there is no way to fix what you've broken? I venture to guess that this has happened in different ways to many people. We might all live with some small regrets or some of us with larger ones but acceptance that there is no going back might bring us some measure of peace.
This movie left me with a very powerful message about words being life.

Denzel Washington does a great job of portraying the lead detective charged with negotiating with bank robbers holding a large group of hostages who hide their true intended targets in ambiguity so as to keep the police off balance.
The hostage takers' actions appear on the surface to be different than the interpretation that the police initially ascribe to them. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the hostages are ordered to undress and put on clothes and masks that make them indistinguishable from the criminals.
Clive Owen does a good job as the criminal master mind although we don't get to see his face much as he is masked in most sequences.
If you're in the mood for a good movie about a bank heist that isn't totally predictable, I would recommend seeing this one as it is quite enjoyable if this is your cup of tea.

A Perfect Murder (1998)
Michael Douglas in his prime played a pretty good nasty guy. A few twists and turns to this tale of betrayal that also features Gwyneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen.
Joe's rating:
A Simple Plan (1998)
Simplicity until it all goes wrong. Simple people stubble upon piles of cash and of course get into all sorts of trouble because of it which inevitably leads to murder.
Joe's rating:
I Heart Huckabees (2004)
What an existential waste of time no matter what the director's intentions.
Joe's rating:
Wasted on the Young (2010)
Not a particularly well made movie but very topical subject matter for kids in high school being bullied, raped, ostracized, afraid to do anything about it.
If anyone thinks this is only fiction I suspect you're burying your head in the sand.

Words, books, movies , songs, musical scores, I don't know what I would do without them all. It seems that life is lived inside of our minds to such a large degree and these arts help get these thoughts out so that we ourselves as well as others can have a better understanding of what it all means.
