Most anticipated films of 2014

Joon-ho Bong has quickly become one of my favorite directors thanks to films like The Host and my favorite film of its year Mother. I'd missed this one when I initially made this list, but my oversight has now been remedied. Not only am I curious to see how he handles the transition to a film where English is the primary language, but the story looks pretty interesting too.

NOTE: This spot was previously held by Wrong Cops, but then it was announced that Wrong Cops would be released in December of 2013 so it got replaced.

Released internationally in 2013, this one still hasn't made it to the US aside from film festivals. So this Michel Gondry movie is still high on my list of movies I want to see.

Any P.T. Anderson film is highly anticipated by me. Normally it might even top this list, but since I wasn't so crazy about The Master and haven't seen a trailer for it yet I can't justify putting it in the number one spot.

*Late entry* - Richard Linklater has quietly worked his way up my list of favorite directors to the point where I do indeed highly anticipate his new films, especially after his latest release topped my list for 2013. Boyhood is a very intriguing approach to a film, and the trailer looks excellent. This should have been in my list back when I created it, but at the time I didn't know it was coming out this year and indeed may not have even heard about it yet. Fortunately moviewatcher122 brought it to my attention & this list has now been updated accordingly.

OK, so normally I don't go in for religious movies, but when Darren Aronofsky is behind it I'm there.

New Christopher Nolan movie? That's all you had to say. Oh yeah, and Matthew McConaughey is on a roll lately it seems so that's also encouraging.

Like most people who loved the first Sin City movie, I've been eagerly anticipating this one for a while. Hopefully the consistent delays in release aren't a sign it'll suck but that everyone's working hard to do it right. And unless something EVIL happens we should finally find out in 2014.

*Edited to add* - The trailer looks decent & we do indeed seem to be on track for a 2014 release. Looks like I'll be re-watching Sin City soon.

As long as it's not a Wolverine movie, I can support an X-Men movie. And really this looks like it'll be worth checking out, if for no other reason than to see the casts of First Class and the trilogy on screen together.

I loved The Muppets, and I have a kiddo that loves the characters too, so there's no way I can avoid this one. Fortunately the trailer didn't give me any reason to want to avoid it either.

This looks like it'll be fun. And I'm always down for a good animated movie.

This one is on my radar thanks to Xanadon't and lotr23 after they sang its praises upon seeing it at TIFF. And the trailer I found for it made me even more excited about it (not posting it here as I'm unsure if it'd play given it's got an age restriction attached to it).

It's not directed by Roland Emmerich, so that's a good thing right? Eh, I love Gojira so I'll most likely check this one out just to keep supporting him. I just hope they do this one right.

The cast alone guarantees I'll watch this one.

Love the first movie, so I'm down for another. Plus my kiddo loves the original movie too so if nothing else I can use her as an excuse. ;) Also, this teaser fills me with joy & excitement, so let's hope the rest of the movie delivers on that.

I've grown to appreciate Jason Bateman over the years, so it's possible I'll see this one. Will need a trailer to determine how interested I really am.

I still haven't seen the first one, so my interest in this one will be determined by whether or not I get around to watching the first before it comes out.

Sadly at this point I'm pretty indifferent to any film with Tim Burton in the director's chair. But hey, look, this one doesn't star Helena Bonham Carter OR Johnny Depp! And it's a biopic, so maybe it'll be more like Ed Wood? I may have to check it out after all. That is, of course, provided he doesn't find a way to shove them into it anyway. :P

Jon Favreau & Robert Downey Jr. are enough to interest me, but I'd like to see a trailer before deciding either way.

Doug Liman has directed a few movies I've loved, so him directing makes me curious. On the other hand, I can't remember the last time I sat down with a Tom Cruise movie so I may wait on this one.

Haven't read the book, but David Fincher directing makes me curious. That said, I still haven't watched his adaptation of Dragon Tattoo, but then I'd already seen the original adaptation. Waiting for a trailer here.

Tarsem Singh directs, which means lots of pretty visuals & lowered expectations with everything else. Ah, but if it's more like The Fall then it could be well worth my watching. Until more details emerge I'm holding off on being excited.

Hmm...not sold on the story idea so much, but it'd be nice to see Johnny Depp work with a different director for a change. And the rest of the cast looks good too. Trailer please?
