Five Element Ninjas (1982)
Probably my favorite old school Kung Fu flick. It has everything I love from Classic Shaw Brothers era cinema. Varied foes, secret super techniques and cheesy special effects.
This films stars Tien-chi Cheng a far lesser known lead man than that of Gorden lu, Jet Li, and the like but truly one of my favorites. His Kung Fu is very solid but doesn't shine out like some of the other classic leading men but I still really like him in pretty much everything I've ever seen him in.
Plain and simple, if you like Kung fu movies (I don't know why you would be reading this if you don't) then this is one you probably haven't heard of that I can strongly suggest.

Ninja in the Deadly Trap (1981)
Same as above: has everything I like about a good old school kung fu flick that is all the better for it's rarity.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978)
One of the main themes often over looked in classic Kung fu is personal transformation. Most have revenge in one form or another as the main motivator but it's the growth and transformation that is important.
Most of this movie isn't all that good really, in my opinion, very slow getting started but without question has the best training or transformation sequence of any in the genre. Gordon Lu shows the personal as well as the physical change better than most and of course his kung fu is impecable, a real master.

The Fearless Hyena (1979)
I think I like this best out of all the early Jackie Chan movies. Great training sequence (good god Jackie, seriously, I didn't think the human body could do that).
Fairly typical of his action/comedy style with some great prop work.

Invincible Armour (1977)
One of the greatest villains and end scene ever, OUCH!!!!!
NDMirskov's rating:

Mad Monkey Kung Fu (1979)
This has what appears to me, i'm not an expert on this style, to be the best representation of Monkey Style Kung Fu, a highly acrobatic and powerful form of martial arts. It does look a little silly but after watching this you will have a much greater appreciation of what an awesome style this is.
NDMirskov's rating:

True Legend (2010)
Way over the top in spots and super slow in others but has some really excellent drunken boxing in it. The villain is SUPER villainy which makes it kind of funny but I don't think that's intentional, but visually its a cool movie and there is some sweet action.
NDMirskov's rating:

Iron Monkey (1993)
Both myself and Quentin Tarantino love this movie, enough said? Enough said.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
This movie revitalized my love and interest in Kung Fu at the time. It was a good box office release with everything; action comedy, special effects, themed settings and costumes even some believable drama. That's a hell of a lot to fit into a movie, and I enjoyed it.
Gymkata (1985)
This is actually kind of a bad movie, but in the same way that Bloodsport is a bad movie, non stop action with a pretty week plot.
I had to put this one up here because it features Todashi Yamashita, who I got to study with when I was younger. You will see him wielding his specialty weapon, sickles on chains. It's pretty sick.
Haven't actually seen this in probably 20 years so it could be downright awful but then again I don't really watch Kung fu for the wide and varied plot and story lines (though many do have that).

God of Cookery (1996)
This is a great flick, very much like Shaolin Soccer (done by the same people probably?)
Funny, entertaining, I highly recommend it.

The Myth (2005)
Haven't heard anyone else discuss this movie in any way, which I find a little odd considering this might be one of Jackie Chan's best movies. It has a way more involved plot than most, good story lines and a more mature acting style from Jackie himself. I would almost call this a date movie, it's fun, interesting and fully entertaining. Out of the Kung Fu genre, this is one of the few I would pull out for a date (not a first date probably, no one's that cool)

House of Flying Daggers (2004)
I had some serious issues with this film as a whole but also has some really excellent and beautiful scenes. Worth a watch, I just didn't get the ending. If someone wants to explain it to me, I'm all ears, I just kind of felt like it fell apart, and was there any resolution to the story line at all?
NDMirskov's rating:

Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954)
The story of Miyamoto Musashi is truly an awesome one. I've read other things about Musashi and by him and if accounts are to be believed, he was the real deal. The true warrior, the best of what the martial world has to offer.
So starting with one of the most fascinating biographies ever told, throw in Toshirรด Mifune in his quintessential role and you have one incredible trilogy well worth the watch.

Some top pics from the Samurai and Kung Fu genre. There are some great lists covering every conceivable genre and sub-genre on here and I fear I don't have much more to ad to them, however I only came across a few really good lists in this genre so hopefully I can toss out some good ones for you all seeing as I've gotten so many good recommendations off here already. You all rock, thanks so much, I hope to return the favor.
