Kanamara Matsuri : Festival Of The Steel Phallus

Kanamara Matsuri is held each spring at the Kanamara shrine in Kawasaki, Japan the first sunday of April.
the phallus, as the central theme of the event is reflected with in illustrations,carved vegetables,candy,popsicles,decorations and a mikoshi parade.
the festival started in 1977 and has become a tourist attraction and is used to raised money for HIV research.
