some history of the atomic bomb, such as the seizure of a beautiful, inhabited island to drop a radioactive bomb.
this film also contains a must see interview with one of the unwitting human atomic test subjects!

the morlocks. this one's about cast offs living in the abandoned underground NYC subway infrastructure. weirdness..would make for a fantastic Gonzo journalism tale though, if only.
death shade's rating:

they deliver. this one is all Human Mutants. that museum in Holland looks amazing!
death shade's rating:

Fascinating documentary about the rise of the Zapatista movement in a dominantly Mayan region of Mexico.

When You're Strange (2010)
never been a huge fan, but really liked this. Morrison did some real far out shit..fucking madman on acid spinning out of control totally publicly.
death shade's rating:

love Fela Kuti. really remember liking this but cannot remember why, not in the slightest. great music.

Cosmos (1980)
i could and probably should watch this repeatedly, absolutely MINDBLOWING! i need to start reading some of his books.
Just heard that Neil D. Tyson is rebooting this series. Cannot wait, the 1980 Cosmos is mindblowing, I can't imagine what would be presented today! He said Spring 13' at the earliest but more likely around 2014.

Sicko (2007)
non American's probably will not give a shit about this one, but if you're living in America and dealing with this blatant scam of a health care system..it's good to see!
death shade's rating:

and really the rest of the Mondo collection too.
death shade's rating:

these people are not shy, which makes for some very personal stories.
death shade's rating:

this one takes a nice twist and has an really odd story about a troup of monkeys that found pacifism.
death shade's rating:

Weird wild stuff. We are truly still in the dark ages. This group believes we can savage earth's natural resources completely and utterly because Jesus will return to escort them away. "Science doesn't prove anything", a lesson imparted by an evangelical home-schooler.
Ted Haggard, who is completely heterosexual despite frequenting at least one male prostitute with whom he used crystal meth with, speaks to the children.

As you can see, he has captivated them.

Children were sent to protest abortion in front of the white house.

Yet another bizarre scene where this swinish woman explains the stealth of sin to a slow drum beat while waving a stuffed tiger around by the tail. Oh, she also mentioned that Harry Potter would be killed by god.

are these fucks in prison yet? i know the one died..though i don't think i can honestly believe that. if anyone deserves to be in prison, it is these skin sacks of shit.
death shade's rating:

Winter Soldier (1972)
tossing VC out of helicopters for fun, that's one way to win hearts and minds! not a good way, but hey, you can always cover that stuff up.

A/k/a Tommy Chong (2006)
John Ashcroft finally enforcing some good ol' American justice on Tommy Chong!
This is what happens when the conservatives get in power. Not that it isn't happening anyway but they targeted Chong.
This doc gets into the the perversity of the American Judicial system. Chong put the pieces together. They pile on a shitload of charges and float you a plea bargain. Now you can go to court and fight the charges but you'll likely be facing substantially more jail time if you choose that route. We have the prison industrial complex to thank for this.

The Yes Men Fix the World (2009)
big fan of these guys. really inspiring figures achieving some public justice and really fucking with the suits. rock n' roll, Yes Men.
Published on Wikileaks from the leaked Stratfor emails reveals the monitoring of the Yes Men due to one of the actions in this film. Stratfor, a private Intelligence agency sometimes referred to as the "shadow CIA" also riff on the rape and dehumanization Stratfor wishes to set Julian Asange up for.

Religulous (2008)
you know..more scientists probably don't pick this topic up because they don't want to absolutely piss their time away. they already know it's all a bunch of garbage.. it's really hard to believe how fundamentally religious the US is getting. i think this really is a job for the comedians.
death shade's rating:

Lessons of Darkness (1992)
stunning cinematography, some embellishment but, what are you gonna do?
death shade's rating:

totally petty, hilarious melodrama. when i watched wrestling as a youngster i always hated Bret Hart, but i loved this doc.
A welcome break from real life injustice. As long as you're not a professional wrestler that is. That Vinny Mac is a fucking prick!

death shade's rating:

Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006)
i saw Chelsea Sexton give a talk on the Revenge of the Electric Car. if we're going to keep our highways and snub high speed rail WE NEED ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILES. I say that as an environmental scientist.

Restrepo (2010)

death shade's rating:

death shade's rating:

Knjiga rekorda Sutke (2005)
inquiring minds owe themselves a tour of Shutka and its colorful ensemble of characters.
death shade's rating:

some background, insight and candid exploration on John C. Holmes.
death shade's rating:

not 100% sold on this guy, he seems to be suffering from some real emotional problems but Peak Oil at least is no joke. and no, pumping oil out of the Gulf, scuzzing up the waters killing hundreds of thousands of dolphins, whales and other wildlife does nothing to change the fact that we will eventually run out of oil.
death shade's rating:

interesting subject matter though dealing with the interviews is a pain, they're barely articulate.
death shade's rating:

a fun story of struggle between a guy who seems pretty o.k. and this totally petty scheming video game nerd.
death shade's rating:

stop shopping at Wal-Mart already, good hell!
death shade's rating:

Dolphins (2000)
dolphins are awesome. dead infant dolphins continue to wash up on Gulf of Mexico shores and more offshore oil drilling on the horizon. they are turning the Earth into a fucking toilet.
