A film so well made that even Spielberg has to watch it before he makes a movie. The standard to which most movies aspire, although not entirely without its faults.

Yes, a sequel can be better than the original and in this case it became the most successful example. An intelligent plot backed up by a superb cast. Possibly Al Pacino's career defining movie.

The Godfather (1972)
The Mafia. Brought to life by Francis Ford Coppola who managed to coax a remarkable performance from Marlon Brando. The film all gangster movies of the era aspired to be.

Lavishly shot in the 30's based on the best selling novel with Clark Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara.

Cleopatra (1963)
A half decent historical epic haunted by its troubled production which is more interesting than the film itself. An early example of excessive executive meddling, ridiculously high costs and mammoth filmaking egos.

The greatest and possibly most pivotal battle of the American Civil War. The lost cause of the Confederacy is a strong underlying theme in this movie and may leave one slightly confused as to which side you should really be routing for.

A prequel to Gettysburg. Good production value hampered by a poor script. Heavily cut by the studio exorcising the important Battle of Antietam and the preceeding campaign. In essence, a film missing the most important parts let down what could have been a good companion to Gettysburg.
