The basic idea of Hitchcock's classic film is prophetic: a photographer in a wheelchair believes he has witnessed a murder, but the main character's own actions are also ethically questionable. "Rear Window" tells the story of how dramatic and decisive even small, spur-of-the-moment decisions can be: it's fascinating to think that the main character would live a completely different life if he had just turned his gaze away at a certain moment. It's interestingly contradictory that the character behaves unethically, but on the other hand, if he didn't behave the way he does, it's possible that the dangerous criminal could continue his life free, planning who knows what new crimes.
