Very rare period film, part gothic horror/part mystery drama about a young French doctor, Doctor Volli (Jeff Dahlgren) who after being invalided out of the First World War returns to his home village to continue caring for the orphan children he'd helped to look after before the war.

This 1984 English language film was made in France by director Laurent Boutonat with a mixed English/French cast and it's an audio and visual treat with absolutely stunning wintry forest scenes, an isolated snow-bound village brimming with dark shadowy secrets, a beautifully evocative score and some excellent performances, including Joss Ackland (White Mischief, The Hunt For Red October, Citizen X) as a village priest, Oscar-winner Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over The Cuckooo's Nest, Brainstorm), & Frances Barber ( Prick Up Your Ears, Sammy And Rosie Get Laid, Goal).
N.b; the leading lady, Mylene Farmer is as well as being an actress also a well-loved recording star in Europe.
About the dvd;
This 2007 French release is a collector's dream as it comes in a stiff cardboard presentation box with a 48 page booklet on the making of the film, with the cast lists, and including interviews with both stars.
The collection has 2 discs, the full 2 hour 50 minute film on disc 1 & a bonus disc (disc 2) with a making of feature and interviews with Jeff Dahlgren, Mylene Farmer & the director.
The film itself is presented in 2:35 Cinemascope, 16x9 Widescreen and is compatible with 4x3 Full Screen as well.
It can be watched in the original English (Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1) or in French (Dolby Digital 5.1).
Subtitles are available in French.
