The first commercial I directed was for Barney’s NY in 1986 when they opened the Women’s Store. It featured Paulina. Crazy that I saved these wardrobe Polaroids, (which also explains my storage bills) but they illustrate a couple of things about the young model, she was about 21 years at the time, I was 29. Firstly she looks great without a spec of makeup. And secondly, she was fun, emoting and even bringing life and imagination to the Polaroids taken at the fitting! This is what makes a model “super”. It’s more that just looks, it’s verve, creativity, and an understanding of what a picture needs to be special, even if it’s just a Polaroid behind the scenes.
