Moderators

lol, for once... I actually agree to the purge, but not total annihlation, like it or not the anime section does actually draw attention to this site(Not just little immature kids, some older people join here because they see it is popular)
if this purge actually works, then this site will be completely awesome

yama is correct there are too many role playing immature jerks putting every one down
and some are actualy harrassing me so I left for a while and it got worse while i was away aparantly they are really happy
yet really sad I say we should moderate it for their
own good as they are getting out of hand and are corrupting normal posts

I just needed to go into the wilderness for a while. I fought a big bear with a stick but then we became best friends and now his mom and my mom are best freinds too. And I've just been trying to see the feud from both ways: the solution for the contributing members is to regulate the forum flow, and the solution for the Naruts is to just be allowed to chill for a little bit so they don't get stressed and cause more annoyance on the contributing members' respective parts. I'm surprised you guys had so much trouble figgering out how Richard deleted his account, though. It's rutty easy.

I Nominate anyone who wants to rule the Anime section with an Ironfist, they are hopeless on their own,
you know what one of them said?
after I said if you don't stop we won't be able to RP in the Anime section
he said: So what I'll just go to another section...
Im all for Ironfist now... I give up

Oh, and could we get the Moderators up quickly? The Anime section is becoming dangerous now... its totally useless trying to talk to them, it WILL NOT work

Be patient Yama! Nobody who contributes to this site actually cares about the Anime section. It is too much of a joke for serious members to bother with 'making it better.'
But if you need a suggestion for someone to moderate the Anime forum. I reckon GemLil should be considered for the position, afterall she loves RPing and she was the first person to speak up in this recent fray of unpleasantries. She also has the Iron Fist that requires and she has many motherly qualities.

It is too much of a joke for serious members to bother with 'making it better.'You know, I try, I really do! And for the most part I've been ignoring the sweeping generalizations against animutards but ya know, every now and then they tend to grate on my nerves. Some of us who like that stuff are perfectly capable of carrying on normal conversation.

Yeah but look at the Anime forum, its so pointless to the site it isn't recognised amongst the points counter. It is that much of a bane! Until firm rules are in place, you best leave your Anime stuff on hold.
Save your conversations for your walls and private messaging! Nobody wants to see them in threads!

*deep breath* *in* *out*
By normal conversation I meant using the threads for their intended purpose and not for RPing and PMs. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't know what I was getting at. I did try to start semi-intelligent discussion there but it was all for naught and I'm feeling the pressure from both sides of the issue at this point!
I for one am all for the dismantlement of the anime groups (or heck, all the groups) for a bit, but I suppose you are just really aggravated and as a result you lump me in with the rest. Which is not surprising really since I do have an anime-esque name and an anime-esque avatar(sometimes). But for future reference, I do try my best to contribute to Listal, hence the somewhat high ranking.

My Avatar is quite anime (even though its not.) But Avatar should mean nothing, its the content of what you write that should define you.
By conversations, you should mean:
"Hi"
"Hello"
"How are you?"
"I'm good, ta. U?"
"Not bad. Lets baddle!"
This should not be allowed in the Forums. It is a mockery of the word Discussion! That is what the forums are for, expressing your opinion on a topic of interest or intellectual content.

Gah! You are such an antagonist. Fine then. I'm adverse to having conversations in the forums in the place of real discussions, is that more clear? Perhaps I was using an incorrect definition, I hope it's cleared up now.

"Not bad. Lets baddle!"
that one cracked me up :)

lol, it did rofl
and yes... I dont like their idea of 'Discussion' it bothers me... and its more like this:

You express your frustration in such a humorous way. But seriously, if you're always getting confused with Naruts it means all you ever talk about is anime. And if anime encompasses your entire life, you require an agressive dose of The White Album, both discs front to back and then back to front.

Lol
that reminded me of a wierd show I watched... it was about this evil video that was like 42 days long...

The Magical Mystery Tour? I'm pretty sure that was an evil video that seemed to last 42 days long, except when I woke up after watching it I was informed it was only an hour or two. I'd been in a coma the rest of the time.

So this is a rocksolid rule then? No one word posts ever? No "LOL" or "yeah..." or "seconded" or "why?" or "explain"or "??". What about two word posts: "i agree", "too bad" etc. And how is above example of Yama reacting to Thil's joke any different from Prel's "that one cracked me up :)" up-a-thread? Not complaining, just asking what the rules are.

Wonderful solution TOM
although you need more

Dale, its not a rock solid rule. In other groups, like Random Chat, anything goes. Even in Anime or in middle of discussions in Games, Music, or Movies, 'lol' replies are usually fine (unless its pointless like 'hi' or the infamous '......' posts)
But this is Listal Development group so 'lol' replies don't fly well (plus I think I wanted to try out the mod features (LOL). Technically, I should also zap Thilian's joke on basis of being off-topic ;)

Ok, I panicked a little there. If it's allowed in the middle of conversations in games, music, movies that's cool. Although right now Listal Development is pretty conversational as well, so a few off-topic comments or reactions here and there shouldn't matter. Case by case, I think.

I think that particular delete of Yama's was really just me testing out the mod feature. i respect yama, nothing against him, and his 'lol' comment wasn't a big deal, but was safe enough to try to delete to see how it works before I ventured off into the anime section (grabs flak suit)
so yeah, no need to panic, I don't plan on being a nazi mod.. lol... just want the damn personal flame wars and random chat to stop in Anime section, and it seems like its already having a positive effect over there.

FYI, I'm no longer a lone wolf. Voxy is helping Listal out as well as a moderator. welcome voxy :)
Tom, any way to make it clear who is moderator? It's been confusing some kids over in Anime and Random Chat, that VIP means moderator (which may be a good thing -- get them to upgrade and think they will get mod benefits, and make them respect anyone with VIP status) but just letting you know it is causing some confusion.

Merci! .... Though I had no idea there was a moderator thread until Tom mentioned in. I hope there isn't a requirement on being observant! :P

oh my, just think of all the funny badges you get when you are VIP :O AND moderator :O AND founding member...:OOOO
soon prelude's profile will look like a communist general's chest ;).
jokes aside, prelude has a point. if you don't want to clutter the profile-box in forum-threads, you could change the color of the user-name or make some special frame around the profile-picture for instance to seperate the sheep from the shepherd.

On forums, mods usually have their usernames in bold with a subtitle of 'User Moderator'.
Prelude ain't no founding member. :)

meh thilian, it was just an example :P. i think you got the point. well, i hope it ;).

(another attempt at swiss humor) ;)
Forget general's medals. I much prefer the Red Baron approach - show off all the crap threads I've killed with rubber stamps of dead naruto characters.

p.s. another thread locked/delete last night because of 14-year old asswipe talking about sex & rape.
Tom, mods need a few special tools to deal with kids like that. A guillotine comes to mind, but any other tool would help as well (mod-imposed IP temporary IP ban, block forum posting for 48hrs, lock an account ASAP and wait for moderators to review action against user).
Basically, deleting/locking is a must, but some repeat offenders tend to change username, create other accounts, and keep spamming until their mommy tells them its lights out and they have to log off the internet (yes, we're talking about kids only, 10 to 15 years old). For those individuals, we need swift tools to block them from site or from groups right away, permanently or temporarily.

Maybe you should construct a full list of Powers a Mod should have. Sort of a collection of the ideas and then Tom can apply what is relevant. A Master List of Responsibilities if you will.
For now, the forums need tending to but eventually we'll need someone who can monitor Reviews, Tags, Duplicates on the Database itself.
The Age Limit needs to be enforced. I cannot stress that enough. If the website is acknowledged as having an age requirement, then some Nanny/Parent Systems will stop younger uses from logging in. Then all we have to do is worry about the liers, and they are easy to sniff out!

I totally vote for a different user name colour. Let's make it black... like our hearts! :P

see my name change. is that intimating now? :)

Maybe... But you might want to aim for "intimidating" :P

lol

I can MS Paint you an intimidating avatar Prelude?

Thilian, can I email you Paint Shop Pro or sumethin? please, no more MS Paint :)
Deleted user

That'd be swell. Can you also order a set of crayons over here? Nothing complicated, just the primary colors plus green.

thank heavens tom truncated this "moderator" to "mod", so i see a chance, should users like "DefenderOfKnowledge" ever become moderator, listal's layout won't be blown up to smithereens. still, it's suboptimal, maybe the avatar could blink or something? i'm sure thilian could arrange something ;).
Deleted user

Bael, Tom didn't add that, Prelude just changed his username ;)

yeah, although i still don't like [mod] either.
hmm. maybe if I plastered 'MODERATOR' on the hood of my car? :)

gwaaah, even worse. without any authorization of user name changes everyone could change it to XYZ[mod]. however, now it's better, so no one get's tempted.
@tom: but if so: is there any username control for mods? i imagine inappropriate names (and a "suffix" like [moderator] is an example for that) of all kinds. is there a possibility for (real) moderators to change them on the fly? will there be one?
