Favorite Movie of all time

The animated one, right Jellÿ?

My personal favorite would be 'Letters of Love' (Love Letter) (1995) by Shunju Iwai. I hope to watch all his movie some day.

Well, you know it seems I have an endless amount of "Favorite Movies Of All Time" that I can watch like a million billion times and still be amazed. #1 is Time of the Gypsies, which is one of those Balkan Gypsy films from Emir Kusturica. And if you think this is pretentious or something, then it's obvious you haven't seen the movie :)
Anyway there exists a 5 hour Director's Cut that I just gotta see sometime, unless it's just an urban legend

Did I never post in this? To make up for lost time, a top 10 films (that I've seen) of all time, in order...
Sin City (2005)
The Matrix (1999)
Donnie Darko (2001)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Ghostbusters (1984)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Run Lola Run (1998)
Finding Nemo (2003)
Touching the Void (2003)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
A reasonable mix between comedy, action, drama and sci-fi overall. Love the cinematography of Sin City, while the acting and casting is pretty much spot on in all cases. It does a great job of bringing Frank Miller's books to life, the cutting is done really well to thread all four stories together and, of course, Miller's original material lends itself holds up really well both in graphic novel format and on celluloid.

Phil, what's Finding Nemo doing there?
its just another cookie-cutter disney/pixar film - what made it stand apart from all the other pixar films?

Partly the quality of the animation - a cut above pretty much any other animated film, and the script is better than most. The secondary characters have more personality than in most of the other Pixar films too and while the overall plot arc is obviously predictable, the scriptwriters have managed to avoid laying out the details early on - unlike in Cars/Toy Story, where it's clear almost exactly what's going to happen and in what order from the first 20 minutes or so. The father/son theme is quite a bit stronger and less flimsy than the old "character finds self" plot that you get in the average Pixar film too. To my mind, it's by far the best "family" film that I've seen.
That said, now you bring it up, does surprise me it's that far up my list. I did rate it quite some time ago, so it might not hold up to being re-watched as and when.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed it, and so have my kids, but it really doesnt stand out as best animated feature for me. One example I can give you is Hoodwinked. That movie got completely butchered by critics (and many movie goers) as its animation is 2nd rate compared to pixar, but you can only do the animation effects you can afford, and Hoodwinked did the best with their limited budget. But animation aside, I thoroughly enjoyed Hoodwinked more - the jokes, the multiple story arcs that all interconnect, the hilarious characters, some of the best voice acting out there, and more importantly, my kids, when given an option for Hoodwinked or Nemo, majority of time go for 'little red riding hood, daddy!'.
But cartoon and animated features, I'd almost be tempted to have a seperate Top 10 list for them. It irks me when I see any animated film in the IMDB top250, as even though they may be awesome and funny, I don't see how any of them can compare to truly epic live-action movies. Think of some of films bumped out of Top250 list because typical pixar films like Ratatouille or Toy Story make it on the list just because they can afford the most expensive computers to render their scenese, causing people to be blinded by 'Wow! that looks so REAL!' and fail to notice the on-rails typical plots.

Well... I guess as a computer scientist, I'm possibly slightly biased towards good animation over poorer stuff. That said, as Nintendo have often proved with their games, you can easily overcome lesser power by stylising what you do - I'd rather most of those games graphically over the gritty "photo-realism" of the PS3 and X-Box, while good writing/voice acting/model acting/direction can still overcome most technical limitations - one of my favourite animated TV shows uses very basic techniques, even by the standards of the 80s when I first watched it as a kid, but re-watching it now, it still stands up to scrutiny and makes for a pretty good and enjoyable show as an adult.
I do agree that many do overrate Pixar films too much on the basis of looking pretty though, and as I said, I'm not convinced that Finding Nemo would stand up to the rating I gave it when I originally saw it - I've seen a hell of a lot since!

Yeah, Finding Nemo isn't all that wonderful. It's a great family film and all, but not that wonderful.

The Dark Knight is my all-time favorite with the LOTR trilogy closely behind.
I'm also going to say Princess Mononoke as an all-time favorite as well, topping in the animated genre.

Casablanca...the film is just perfect. It doesn't get old for me and every line is so memorable. Everyone that I watch this film with young or old has loved it. It is action, romance, drama, adventure, comedy all wrapped up into one awesome film. It is hard to believe that this film almost never made it out of production. I will always love Casablanca, and every time I watch it, I love it even more!

All-time top favourite: The Godfather. Wish I'd find a quote here to add from the start, performed by Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), but I can't find.

^
Don Corleone: You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you? Or my boy to me?
Michael: Some people will pay a lot of money for that information; but then your daughter would lose a father, instead of gaining a husband.
Clemenza: The negotiator's at my house playing pinochle with some of my men, he's happy. They're letting him win.

If I had to narrow it to a single one, I'd probably have to say Trois Couleurs: Bleu.

Ikiru is probably my favourite film; it's the one that has had the most profound effect on me emotionally and I love every second of it.
On the other hand, the movie I love to watch over and over again is Die Hard.

Nothing is as timeless as CASABLANCA...

It's very difficult to pinpoint any one....but i'll go for 'Requiem For A Dream'!

Back to the Future! I've probably seen it at least 15 times.

Shawshank followed by the Godafther.

it is a very difficult question, but i'm sure to say The Big Lebowski.

Inception
Damn, that is one tough question!

My favourite movie is "Noriko's Dinner Table" by Sion Sono. I assume no one's ever heard of it. It's the companion piece to "Suicide Club" if that helps.

batman the dark night,matrix.......

"The Virgins Suicides" and "Donnie Darko". The 3rd place I always change but most of the times I choose "Almost Famous" or "Lost In Translation".

Although I have a lot of favorites, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back is easily my favorite.

For the last few years, my standard answer has been Gattaca. Before that, I could never think of one film that deserved that title.
Atonement comes in at a very close second.
