Favorite Movie of all time

Well yes, but that doesn't make it my favorite. Like Xxx is always on TV.
Maybe Napoleon Dynamite.

okay then...movies you purposely sit down to watch over and over...not something you catch on TV:)
Movies you enjoy and want to watch/have watched multiple times:)

Ew.. Napolean Dynamite is ridiculously overrated.

All the 3 extended versions of Lord of the Rings were amazing..Any one saw the extended version? The real versions were like black holes with so many scene's missing.

No way, Napoleon is the best.
I really dunno, we actually have like only 5 dvds. Napoleon is probably my fav.
You have to see it like 3 times to get it.

only 5 DVD's??? Seriously?
I only had to see Napoleon Dynamite once to get it.
A friend of mine told me she had watched "Donnie Darko" many times and still didn't get it, that it was a tough one to figure out. I watched it once, after winning a copy, and got it right away:)

How could Donnie Darko be a tough one to figure out? It was simple... I'm confused

Napoleon Dynamite isn't overrated; it became overpopularized. That's when a film gets talked about so many times that people get sick and tired of hearing about it. Still, I think it's a brilliant subdued comedy. No real point to it, and lots of goofy characters. Basically, a film about nothing. After all, the concept of making a show about nothing worked well for 'Seinfeld'. And despite it being about nothing at all, I still remember so many funny scenes, more than most other films I've seen recently, so to me, it shows it's got staying power. But after all, a comedy is very much a love it or hate it style of film, which is why they never do too well on IMDB ratings.
Here are my faves:
Best Drama: Children of Men (it used to be V for Vendetta, but CoM dethroned it; the movie is absolutely perfect)
Best Comedy: Still is and will probably always be The Big Lebowski.
Best Sci-Fi: I still have a soft spot for Aliens.
Best Classic Comedy: Dr. Strangelove
Best Classic Drama: One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest
Best Documentary: The Corporation

I didn't say the person who had a tough time with Donnie Darko had the best ability to pay attention while watching a movie and grasp what was going on!
I watched "The Village" with her, and I figured that one out SO early in the movie---she was still going, "How did you know?" after the movie was over!

well---she is a girl, so maybe "bugger" isn't the right word:)
But yeah...it got more than a little frustrating at times, having to explain what had happened in a movie we were watching together...I mean, she was sitting right there!
I guess for people who aren't THAT observant, "Donnie Darko" wouldn't make too much sense after one viewing---but multiple viewings??? Come on!
And, I am sorry, but "The Village"?? Completely predictable...but I was nice and chalked my knowing what was coming up to having seen too many movies (yeah right!).

p.s. my favourite movie isn't an award winner, but it is great stuff! ("The Rocky Horror Picture Show"). I first saw it when I was 14. but, I walked in during the movie (my parents were watching it), and I thought they were nuts. Later that same day, however, I watched it again, from the beginning, and have loved it ever since!
Even played Frank in a lip sync at school. Sadly, only seen it once or twice in the theatre.

kiss of the dragon cause its got a great story to it and jackass 2 cause its so funny. also speed the first one i can watch that over and over

I don't know what bugger means over there but over here being male or female doesn't matter, everyone can be called a bugger. My mum is like that with movies too, I have to explain a lot to her. The fact that she is multi tasking at the same time might explain it all though.
The Usual Suspects is another one of my favourites too.

bugger here...really more of a male term. Even if you look it up on dictionary.com, the first definition is:
"Informal. a fellow or lad (used affectionately or abusively): a cute little bugger."
also, not in general use, as it has another meaning that isn't quite so nice. see this definition:
"Often Vulgar. a sodomite." OR "to sodomize."
None of the definitions says it is used in reference to females.

John, dude. Listing Jackass #2 as one of favorite movies OF ALL TIME? You're either stoned right now, or need to be exposed to A LOT MORE movies. That reminds me of the Simpsons episode, where 'Man gets kicked in the balls by a football' won a movie award. But I guess multiple viewings of Speed might have that effect on people. After all, wasn't 'Speed' one of the movies they used in 'A ClockWork Orange' to torture the prisoners by forcing them to watch it while their eyelids are held open? ;)

Prelude76: that's funny...I chose not to comment on that person's list of movies they watch over and over.
If A Clockwork Orange had been made after Speed, perhaps that might have been true. However, Speed is okay once in a while - it is at least better than...what was it??? Demolition Man?
God...I saw that in the theatre and my boyfriend (at the time) and I were the only two in the whole place laughing our asses off because the movie was completely stupid.

Jess, it's like arguing which is better, diarrhea or vomiting.
Oddly enough I see a pattern. Any action movie that relies on Sandra Bullock as the comic relief/sidekick character should be avoided at all costs.
Or it could be that both films were written by a 5th grader?

either a 5th grader, or extremely stoned - stoned stupid. Someone out there is laughing their ass off because they were paid for that crap!
How did Sandra Bullock get so big, anyhow? I want to see...is it Premonition? but not because she is in it!

Dawn patrol with erol fliyn, basil rathbone and david niven. my daddy's fav and mine too.

Pardon my expression, but I fuckin' hate Seinfeld down to the deepest pits of my tv-watching heart. I abhored every single arrogant and selfish character on that show. Not a single one of them had a redeeming quality of any kind. Hated it and still shudder every time someone brings it up. I'd also like to beat the snot out of Seinfeld himself.
-pant pant- Deep breaths.
In Other News:
I would NEVER use dictionary.com to back-up my spelling/definitions:
It thinks "conversate" is a real word... A clear example of perpetuating terrible English. It's not slang, it's ignorance.

haha... don't hold back, Voxy. Tell us how you REALLY feel about Sienfeld. :)
I guess on that particular topic, we'll just agree to disagree, because I feel quite the opposite about that show, and I think ever since it went off air, nothing can quite ever replace it.

I've had nightmares where I was up in their coffee shop/restaurant, starving, and had to wait for their "big salad" argument to be over so that I could get a table :P

So it was you that put the big VEX on all the cast to make sure they bomb horribly in all their future post-Seinfeld roles.

-shifty gaze- I certainly know not what you are referring to.

"I abhored every single arrogant and selfish character on [Seinfeld]. Not a single one of them had a redeeming quality of any kind."
That seemed to be the point, though: watching all these characters get their comeuppance, all their cunning little plans turning into disasters.
If there's anyone out there who does like Seinfeld and who hasn't already checked out Curb Your Enthusiasm, it's definately worth picking up the relatively cheap DVDs. It's written by and stars the co-creater and head writer of Seinfeld, Larry David, and has a pretty similar format.

This show is about 'NOTHING'..I never watched this show, and I never will watch the reruns. Who cares? It is one of the most pointless, dumb shows ever created by mortal man. I'm sorry, but Jerry Seinfeld should never come back, nor should anyone else on that show. I never understood what all the fuss was about, and I won't even pretned to be interested.

Sienfeld - 9.3 out of 10 on IMDB. Yes, the show truly is hated by the majority. ;)

Don't worry Prelude, you aren't the only one who loved that show. I thought it was a classic and it's one of the only reruns I can stand watching (I hate reruns).

IMDB users also rated American Idol a 5 out of ten... but it's the most watched program in all of North America. :P Mind you, there is a difference in the number of votes.
It makes no difference to me either way. I would never tune into something just because a lot of other people liked it.... Actually I have this tendency to hate things that too many people like. It just sort of takes the "special" out of it all.

has to be top gun, platoon,Shawshank Redemption and ice age just to much to pick from all in there for diffrent reasons

American Idol might be a popular show with a huge audience, but that doesn't mean it is a good show. It is terrible this season---HORRIBLE.
Seinfeld is a good show, long lasting, and still very popular.
American Idol is steadily slipping downhill---and I can't wait for it to disappear.

ah, but there is a difference:
Seinfeld; popular show, huge audience, and a 9.3 rating
American Idol: popular show, huge audience, and a 5.0 rating
Voxy, you lose this debate. :P

Well, I can't say much about Seinfeld as I haven't seen any of it, but I'd rather watch Seinfeld than American Idol!!!!
On another note, my ultimate ultimate ultimate favorite of all times, which is *not yet out on dvd* (people, get it out! tired of waiting)
At Play In The Fields Of The Lord
close second: Usual Suspects
in other areas:
Best Drama: Children of Men
Best Comedy: The Money Pit
Best Classic: Casablanca
Best Documentary: that's a toughie, but so far, I'd say The Corporation, and close second, Death of A President. Expecting to see Fast Food Nation this week-end, so I may rule this as my favorite...
Best Thriller: Sleeping with the Enemy
and my Best "it's so stupid it's funny" Movie?
Men In Black.
this may not be a movie, but I thought I'd put this in, anyway:
Best TV series of all times: Will and Grace

Wait, wait!
8,478 voters for Seinfeld
1,320 voters for AI
Doesn't that count for something? I mean, if I were really good at statistics, I'm sure I could come up with something relevant :P

Ive got a few that I could watch again & again ~
~The Usual Suspects
~Highlander
~The Green Mile
~Shawshank Redemption
~Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

nice list, beattie-babe, but R&G are dead?? I heard a lot about this one, and tried to get into it twice, but both times got so bored I gave up on it.
what's the appeal for R&G are dead? am I missing what its supposed to mocking?
but i like the criteria for what makes a 'favorite' movie -- one that I could watch over and over again.
in that list, my faves are:
Office Space (seen at least 8 times)
Big Lebowski (see 6 times, want to see it again)
Raiders of Lost Ark (seen at least a dozen times)
Christmas Vacation (seen at least twice a year for past 8 years?)
and there's more, but too busy to finish the list :)

I guess R&G is a bit left field, and it is one of those films you either get or you dont & pretty much all of Tom Stoppard's work is the same.

To bring back month-old conversation, Curb Your Enthusiasm is insanely incredible, but only in small doses. The camera might use odd anglings, and the actors and actresses seem to say their lines off the top of it, but this is apart of the beauty. Especially the agent's (ex-)wife, who cusses compulsively. In all honesty, I think she's one of the most inexpensible characters of the show. Though, like I said, the formula goes over a bit. Though I'm a little confused myself as to whether or not I stop watching this every now and then because of repetition on the screen, or because I get tired of clenching my stomach in vocal exertion that denotes sheer hilarity.
At any rate, my favorite film is Collateral (2004) with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise. I know the latter gets some rag for his roles. I've always been a bit disturbed when seeing him play the protagonist. He just looks too maniacle, too much like an antihero. I don't know if he plays the villain on any other occasion, but this fits for me. Jamie Foxx I like tremendously, and the whole gritty plot and visual unity is engaging. If I get anything on DVD this holiday season, this is one I'm not letting my material possession bestowers have a choice on.
I also thoroughly love, as far as individual films go, Dumbo, Dracula (1933), Frankenstein (1933), King Kong vs Godzilla, the Bourne series, and pretty much anything in my Favorite Grit Hits list. There may be a distinguishable pattern between these films (depending on your ability to connect things), but I can pretty much enjoy something if I can sympathize with the message and the approach is original. I always have to relate art to myself. I feel a lack of point otherwise.

Update: I just ordered Collateral on DVD. That's how favorited it is.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Not just because Jack Sparrow is the best movie character of all time, but because this is the most enjoyable movie ever made. It's got comedy, adventure, romance... not much more you can ask for. It's hard to believe it all started from a theme park ride....

My favorite movie of all-time, would be The Departed.

Mine would be... LOST Seasons 1-3, although I never watched season 3.
