Ellington at Newport is a 1956 jazz live album by Duke Ellington and his band, recording their historic 1956 concert at the Newport Jazz Festival, a concert which revitalized Ellington's flagging career. Jazz promoter George Wein describes the 1956 concert as "the greatest performance of [Ellington's] career... It stood for everything that jazz had been and could be."

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (10 music items)

"The epitome of improv jazz. I do not like it that much, but the technical ability of the musicians is undeniable, as well as the quality of the recording of the show, which is considered one of the most important in jazz history. It's a very different show than we're used to. In the breaks between the songs you do not hear a peep from the audience, Ellington is always explaining where the songs came from and why they are how they are, all the invited artists are presented to the audience with a "
