A very good movie

Posted : 11 years ago on 12 May 2013 02:58

A biopic is not always synonym with success, at least, not in my book. However, some of them are really good and this flick is definitely one of them. To be honest, if there is one musical genre with which I don't feel any connection whatsoever, that would be definitely Country (the way 'Country Strong' completely underwhelmed me would be another proof or maybe the movie just plain sucked, take your own pick). Still, even though I don't like the genre, Johnny Cash remains a very intriguing figure and he has made some pretty bad-ass songs. The fact that I didn't know much about Cash made the whole thing even more appealing to me. To start with, I had never been really impressed by James Mangold so far ('Identity', 'Kate & Leopold', 'Girl, Interrupted', 'Cop Land'), but his directing was really efficient and it is easily his best movie so far. Above all, I was really impressed by Joaquin Phoenix. I mean, Reese Whiterspoon was pretty decent but there was nothing in her performance which justified her winning the Academy award whereas Phoenix was snubbed (on the other hand, Philip Seymour Hoffman was awesome in 'Capote' and probably deserved to win after all). Anyway, Phoenix was the driving force and made this movie really fascinating to watch when he did not look at all like Johnny Cash. To conclude, even though it is far from being really original, I really liked this flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

This film was really emotional and was very touching with all the characters involved. I had never heard about Johnny Cashs life until I saw this film for the first time. It is obviously a really depressing and troubled life but he got there in the end which was great. Despite of how depressing the film is, it is also a very beautiful film too about love and friendship too.

Joaquin Phoenix gives an extremely powerful and passionate performance as legendary singer Johnny Cash. Joaquin makes Johnny Cash not only a real person but also an absolutely awesome film character. It is like Joaquin makes Johnny Cash his own character but not his own person because Cash was obviously a real person. i personally think that if there is ever an Elvis Presley film about his life, I think that Joaquin would have been the perfect choice because he has that cool style and deep singing style too. It was definitely Phoenixs most powerful performance. His performance in Gladiator is still damn good though. Reese Witherspoon delivers an absolutely awesome performance aswell as June Carter. I personally think that Reese looked a lot like the real June Carter. Reese naturally has blonde hair but she looks really great with brown hair. I think she dyed it brown instead of wearing a wig. This was the first film that I saw with Reese Witherspoon in it and it started off as probably her best film too.

The direction was good but not that good and I thought the breathtaking and heartbreaking script was really good too. This film had awesome sound, costumes and an excellent script too. As I said, it is Phoenixs most powerful performance and probably Witherspoons most powerful one too even though this film is the first I have watched from Reese Witherspoon in it. This film can help people with coping and recovering from drug addiction and also about coping with a childhood tragedy. This film was as good as I had hoped it would be.

The only thing that I thought delayed it for me was that I thought that some of the scenes were a bit long and went a bit boring and was like blah-blah-blah for like 10 minutes in some scenes. Despite that, it is one of the best films of 2005 and one of the greatest biography stories of all time too about one of the greatest singers/musicians of all time. I would have rated this 3.5 but because of the extremely powerful chemistry between John and June I have to rate it up higher. It is now 4 star.

Walk the Line Review

Johnny Cash was a genius and the story of his life is definitely worth telling. 'Walk the Line' does the job and then some.

Joaquin Phoenix not only acts and looks like a young Johnny Cash, but mimics his singing voice so accurately, it’s hard to tell the difference. If that's not enough, Reese Witherspoon's imitation of June Carter is even better.

Witherspoon won the Oscar for the best actress in a lead role while Phoenix was nominated for best actor. There is no doubt that both out do themselves in this film and the sincerity of the Cash/Carter relationship is never called into question.

This film has a very wide appeal, it is dark and moving in some places and light-hearted and comical in others. What’s more, some superb performances of Cash and Carter’s songs, act as the cherry on the cake.

It was an amazing movie. so sad, inspirational and moving.

It tells the life story of Johnny Cash (Joacquin Phoenix) as a musician, from his depressing childhood, to starting his career as a musician, to his downfall on drugs and his love June Carter (Reese Witherspoon).

I thought the acting was extrodinary by both Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, allong with all the other supporting actors.

I found it amazing that all vocals of Johnny Cash were by Joaquin Phoenix, as were the vocals of comedian/singer June Carter by Reese Witherspoon.

Really should see it, and if you do get ready to be glued to the seat with amazment of how good this movie truly is till the end.
