“To be honest, this movie was not really a high priority but since it was on Netflix and since it was suggested by one of my favorite listal members, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be a nice watch and I was above all surprised by how much it resembled 'Get Out', so far one of the biggest critical success released in 2017. Well, even though I did like 'Get Out', to be honest, it didn't really blow me away though and, in fact, I thought that this movie was actually slightly better even if it was apparently barely seen when it was released. Indeed, I really enjoyed how ambiguous they managed to keep the whole thing and, as long as it remained so ambiguous, it was really quite captivating. 30 Favorite Films of 2016 (30 movies items)"I love good slowburn, and Karyn Kusama's The Invitation is one of the best I've seen. Kusama slowly but surely ratchets up the tension and paranoia before bursting it in the third act. It all leads to one of the best final shots of 2016, the implications of it made my jaw drop, and added a completely new layer to the film. Beyond the effective suspense, though, is an emotional core felt throughout that increases the films depth even more. The Invitation is one of the best thrillers of last 2016."
