The Devil

The devil—in the form of a Dr. Muller—is friends with two couples, Marie and banker Georges, and artist Paul and his model Mimi. Marie views a painting called “The Martyr—Truth Crucified by Evil” and she argues that truth actually always wins out over evil. Dr. Muller feels challenged to disprove her, so he secretly arranges for Marie and Paul to begin an affair. When the affair falls apart and the couples reconcile, the doctor tries to attack Marie in her apartment. Marie uses prayer to manifest a heavenly cross which sends the devil back to hell.
