Limitless review

Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) is standing on a penthouse balcony with killers losing in on him and he's about to throw himself off. We'll clearly come back to this scene later. We flash back to Eddie as a scruffy loser who can't write and leeches off his girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) to get by. Everything changes when he takes drug given to him by his ex-wife's brother Vernon. NZT-48 is a brain enhancing drug that improves reflexes, memory, concentration and heightens his senses and makes the camera lose its blue filter. Buzzing on the drug, he cleans up his apartment and gets to work writing his book all through the rest of the night. The following morning he is back to normal but now has large chunk of his book written.

Eddie goes to Vernon's apartment to get more of the drug. He seems oblivious to fact that Vernon looks rough and roughed-up. Vernon knows he's after more NZT-48 but first he make Eddie go a few errands for him. When Eddie gets back Vernon is dead with a bullet in his brain and the apartment has been ransacked. He calls the police to report the murder then desperately hunts for the drug . Luckily Eddie finds a large stash of the drug with a pile of money and pockets both as the police arrive.

We then get a montage of Eddie being smart, competent and popular, hanging with around loose women in exotic locations and driving fast cars. He wants to be rich and powerful and can't make money fast enough so he turns to a dodgy Russian moneylender ( I thought the drug was supposed you smart). With that money he really starts getting into his stride, making large amounts on the stock-market. This brings to him to attention of rich powerful people, such as Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro) the boss of a energy company who is really impressed with Eddie's ideas and arranges another meeting the following day ( I wonder if his humourless no-nonsense persona is a side effect of growing up with that hilarious name).

Eddie starts seeing the downside of NZT-48 – his supply is starting to run low and he getting withdrawal symptoms and he hasn't even found out who makes it. He has blackouts where he may have killed a woman. He blows it big time at his meeting with Van Loon. The Russian moneylender has also got a taste for the drug ( thanks to Eddie forgetting to pay him his money – that must the 'Smart' drug at work again) and he's on Eddie's back for more. Whoever killed Vernon is now after him too. And the blue filter is back on the camera

I did enjoy watching this film but it didn't really go anywhere that was too surprising and the ending was just a cheat. For someone who is apparently limitless his ambition seem so restrained and conventional. It seems that drug turns off the part of the brain that stops people being arrogant megalomaniacs. The mention of the "humans only use 10% of their brain" nonsense is just a lot of rubbish and really wasn't needed for the plot all. Google is a good friend to writers doing research and a terrible foe to all those that just can't be bothered. Bradley Cooper was okay as Eddie but then I didn't like Eddie as either arrogant selfish genius or a self-pitying loser. Robert De Niro was great especially the scene where he's giving Eddie a real dressing down. Anna Friel is in the film as Eddie's ex-wife Melissa which is really not a big part. She does okay with what she given to do.

Potential that this movies had was so stupidly abused: only in very, very limited American imagination you can use the power that this drug offers you just for becoming a politician -.- I would even understand this "fuck art, literature, my newly acquired writing talent and every meaningful scientific or metaphysical problem that has proven difficult for humanity because I'd like to be a senator" position if they at least had a minimum of satire in it instead taking it seriously. Mediocre and boring.

I don't know how much praise I should give a pro drug film such as this, but its an action-packed piece. Love the use of the multi-subject frames and the travelling long shot. Fun and inventive, worth a watch no matter what you may take away from it.

An average movie

Since I’m still a huge fan of Robert de Niro, I still wanted to check this flick, even though I had some rather low expectations. Eventually, I found it rather difficult to judge this movie. Indeed, half of it was pretty neat and entertaining but the other half was just pure garbage. I mean, the concept was actually pretty awesome and I loved the idea of a human being who could use all his brain. Furthermore, I thought that Bradley Cooper was well cast and he delivered a solid performance. It was also visually pretty neat but I thought also that it was a lot of camouflage to hide the fact that they didn’t really know how to visually display this concept. Still, like I said before, there was also tons of garbage. To start with, Abbie Cornish was terribly underused and I’d rather not talk about Robert de Niro… Such a legendary actor showing up for such an uninteresting part… I mean, any actor could have done this job and it was just yet another disappointing title to his already disappointing (recent) resume. Furthermore, I thought there were some huge plot holes. For example, at some point, it was made clear that the drug was lethal and the main character was supposed to die soon. So, he wisely decided to stop and his girlfriend was supporting him. But then, 5 minutes later, he was back on the drugs and everything was fine and, at the end, he was having diner with his girlfriend and everything is peachy?!? It is obvious that the makers at the end couldn’t make up their mind about this drug. Was it bad? Was it lethal? or ws it actually really awesome? Eventually, the biggest issue, in my opinion, is that, in spite of its title, this movie was actually terribly limited when you consider the scope. Basically, when the main character becomes the smartest man on Earth, he decides to become a Wall Street yuppie?!? Couldn’t they come up with something more inspiring than this? Still, it remains a pretty cool concept and I was entertained more or less through the whole thing and I still think it is worth a look but don’t expect anything amazing though.

Film Burgera to idealny kompromis.

I was thinking this wouldn't be that good, but I liked it. It had that raw feeling of a good drug movie and an ending that was fulfilling.

Has Moments

Man do I want this pill!! Just think you take a pill and you become pretty much awesome at everything, OK enough about the pill. The movie was far perfect from the pill. The story starts out very slow before it ever picks up. There were some good climax scenes, but I have seen better. The suspense didn't really get me going, but it also did not bore me because the story even though they tried too much, stayed intact pretty well. I am glad though that they were able to solve everything in the movie, because the movie was very vague for a while, but it did end up being a good story. The acting was average, Bradley Cooper wasn't bad, he had some nice moments. Abbie Cornish wasn't corny at all, and Robert De Niro was a nice fit as a supporting actor. The movie seemed far fetched but ending up coming together very well. But with a really slow moving beginning I am giving it a 5, but hey you never know you might enjoy it. I defiantly want that pill though.

Quite interested in Sci-Fi's, Limitless though a Sci-Fi, but it could not captivate me. Even the presence of Bradely Cooper & Robert De Niro, didn't do the trick for me.

I find it funny how the movie is about Bradley Cooper taking these pills that allows him to use 100% of his brain but the movie only uses about 60% of its' brain. Also, I find it funny how this movie is about taking the pill and becoming smart all of the sudden but the people never actually have anything smart to say nor do they really say anything smart which is the biggest problem of the film, the script is dumb. Everything else however is fine Bradley Cooper really lifts this movie with his wonderful performance and really carries it, the rest of the cast did a nice job also. Despite the dumb script This is a pretty entertaining and fun movie.
