The Art of Self-Defense update feed
" Date: 11/9/2019 Viewed: Blu-Ray (Red Box rental) First viewing Note: I finally got the chance to see this movie after hearing great things about it. I really enjoy this movie from start to finish because I thought it was pretty clever and original. The movie has a pretty good social commentary on toxic masculinity. I really like the movie's themes on strength and how intrinsic values can lead to various forms of conflict. The acting was very good and the dark comedy was pretty well executed "
"The direction this takes are wild to an extent I was wholly unprepared for. I love it. An extremely confident step-up from the somewhat uneven Faults. "

"First viewing - July 20th This was an oddball of a film, one I appreciated more than enjoyed. It's certainly a dark comedy and a satire to boot, and easily one of the most original films I've seen this year. I saw one critic claim it's like if Yorgos Lanthimos remade The Karate Kid, which seems apt. It's not as great as that idea sounds, however, but I was constantly wondering where it would go next and it occasionally surprised me. Maybe my rating will change if I revisit it down the road now "
