P.S. I Love You review

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 29 November 2012 11:11

I kept avoiding this movie like many others cause I'm not very fond of pink movies and do not enjoy them at all. They don't move me and since I'm very realistic in life I find it hard to watch sth like this. Well, nothing was on so I said 'well, why not?'..It might had been the fact that it reminded me of some of my own experiences in life and I might had found myself in total accordance with Swank...I cried so much it scared the living life out of me...For what is worth, I think this movie can offer you a good getaway for all the emotions you keep inside and never let out. It will help, that's for sure and let's face it, that's what movies are for..

P.S. I Love You review

My most favorite romantic chick flick the last two years!! What makes this movie so great is if you have no expectation. Because of reviews and not thinking Hilary Swank could pull off romantic made this movie shine. She pulls it off and the movie is way better than the reviews. Tear Jerker! The shining happy moments are definitely the comedy relief Harry Connick Jr. brings. He is good in this movie... sexy... charming and hilarious. This movie has a great ending and just is so beautiful. I read half the book and wow, the movie makes the book look bad. The movie is better than the book! Now I love seeing girly movies, mostly they have disappointed me or been just okay. This one was better than all the rest.

An average movie

Posted : 13 years ago on 29 April 2011 12:29

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I kept hearing some good things about this flick, I was quite eager to check it out. In fact the funny thing I gathered before watching it is that most of the viewers actually really love it or either find it rather lame and there is not many people in between. So, I was curious to see it and make my own judgment. After watching the damned thing, I can see why some people are crazy about it. I mean, Gerard Butler (probably the only romantic feature he has made so far which is actually worth a look) and Hilary Swank were both pretty good and they gave some decent performances. Obviously, the story had some nice romantic moments but, to be honest, was it enough to make it a really great movie ? I don't think so. Seriously, at the end of the day, I'll give you that, the whole concept was maybe romantic but it was also really far-fetched and, in spite of its qualities, the whole thing remained a rather predictable romantic picture filled with clichรฉs. However, even though I wasn't really sold, I still think it is worth a look though, especially if you like the genre.

A few things made this movie watchable (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Gerard Butler among them), but once accepting that the movie is not supposed to tell the same tale as the book, everything gets a little brighter.

Good book, average movie

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 29 March 2009 01:30

I've read several of Celia Ahern's books. They are definitely chick books, but make for good, light reading and always keep me coming back for more. It just didn't turn into a good movie, not horrible, but not good either. Some of the scenes seemed forced or silly (the boat scene). And they weren't able to make the secondary characters as fleshed out as in the book, so they just seemed cardboard, no matter the great cast. The overall plot was refreshing, but it felt to me like parts were missing. And as much as I love a good cry, I barely teared up in places. Just didn't make a connection with me.

P.S. Burn after Watching...

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 4 January 2009 08:23

''What do you want? I know what I want, cause I'm holding it in my hands.''

A young widow discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life.

Hilary Swank: Holly

P.S. I Love You is obviously someone trying to be clever and original, but ends up being boring and depressing. It is, throughout, simply, awkward. Scenes drag themselves out without apparent purpose or design. Characters and actors all seem to be coming from T.V. Series, making it feel like something at home on Hallmark rather than the big screen. (I spotted three Actors from three series) Lines of dialogue seem to be melodramatic and unintentionally romanticized.
You don't know whether the filmmaker's goal was to create a heartwarming bonding of love or a gut-wrenching battle of two estranged lovers. Hillary Swank is especially out of place in these murky happenings, feeling like she must be doing a film in a studio next door and just visiting the set of this film.
I spent the time after watching it, wondering how so many talented people could have made such a mess. The stars are fine. We know these people and we know what they can do: Kathy Bates and Hillary Swank are Oscar winners, for example.

''We're so arrogant, aren't we? So afraid of age, we do everything we can to prevent it. We don't realize what a privilege it is to grow old with someone. Someone who doesn't drive you to commit murder or doesn't humiliate you beyond repair.''

The biggest problems are the script and the directing. The script is soulless. Not a single believable, consistent character emerges from this squalid affair. Holly, the lead, (Swank), is, by rotations, depicted as a resentful, frustrated shrew, a nature girl dopey hippy, and a high-heeled shoe fetishist. Kathy Bathes, the mom, is depicted as hating her son-in-law and railing against her daughter, and then is shown to have done something kindly that goes against everything we were told about her.
Not only does the script not make sense, there are scenes that are downright cringe-inducing. Characters that the viewer knows should not be kissing kiss, characters we are supposed to like behave like temperamental, shallow block heads. The main premise โ€“ that a man dictates his wife's life after his death is downright creepy, unnatural and sickening.

So, what happened to Richard Lagravenese, who has written great scripts in the past? My best evaluation being neither he nor anybody else involved has any respect for the potential for excellence in a movie about women.
Women whom are cut and pasted unto a series of scenes that they thought would get the ladies to cry and sigh.
Oh, here we need a kiss. Ladle a kiss in here. Okay, here we need a catfight between girlfriends. Tick off said fight. Okay, here we need a poignant mother-daughter moment. Let's rewrite a scene from Terms of Endearment and place it in here.
Look โ€“ some people are saying that loving or hating this movie is about the difference between men and women. Don't believe them. P.S. I Love You is a simply awful movie adaptation of a book trying something done alot better previously, thus an insult to its intended female audience. If you want to see a good chick flick, there are plenty out there, that are as intelligent as anything, made for men. Don't tell me that this movie's abysmal quality is the fault of women. Rather, it's the fault of treating women, and art made for women, with complete disrespect.

''It's been a year. I don't feel him anymore. I feel he's gone. He's really gone!''

Wonderful love story

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 14 December 2008 06:28

This is a movie for fans of movies. I went to Rotten Tomatoes and only 21% of the critics gave this movie a positive rating. I wish these guys would quit rating movies critically and rate them according to their entertainment value. I've talked with a few people about this movie and have heard nothing but positive glowing comments. Is it perfect, no, but it is a great movie to watch with someone special.

This love story is told in a unique way. You get to see the story after the husband dies. Through a series of letters, you get to see the couples love for one another through flashbacks by Swank's character. Sometimes you will laugh and other times you will need a tissue. The supporting cast does a great job as Swank goes through this emotional roller coaster ride. (The footage of Ireland is worth looking at by itself.)

Rent the DVD or watch this one on cable. Be prepared to get teary eyed, but enjoy a wonderful love story.

*girls' only* movie

Posted : 15 years, 7 months ago on 12 October 2008 06:33

Holly (Hilary Swank) and Gerry (Gerard Butler) are married and considering having children. Quite suddenly Gerry dies leaving Holly widowed. Following his death, she starts receiving letters written by her deceased husband; those letters will help her deal with pain and start a new life.

The film has a great cast! Aside from Swank and Butler, there are the 2 best friends played by Gina Gershon and Lisa Kudrow (whose role is plain hilarious), as well as Kathy Bates (Holly's mother), Harry Connick Jr and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

It's a nice romantic movie that brings you to Ireland and its beautiful scenery. The photography in fact is quite good.

I honestly didn't expect the movie to be so... tear-jerking and emotional. Expect to cry. A lot. Definitely a great romance not to be missed for those who enjoy this type of movie.
