Security risks

Posted : 1 year, 10 months ago on 5 July 2022 03:18

"National Treasure" is a thriller that was obviously targeted for young audiences. John Turtletaub, its director, has created a film that will resonate with those audiences because of the great ride and the adventure it depicts. On the other hand, heaven help us, should anyone feel inspired to emulate the hero of the film and attempts to do something similar, which in a way, doesn't say much about the security in guarding the real "natural treasures" of the country.

If we can believe Ben Gates can pull the caper, then there's no problem in enjoying this film, which offers an action packed couple of hours that could have been trimmed a little bit to make it even better.

Not being a Nicolas Cage fan, one was prepared for the worst, but this is one of the films in which Mr. Cage is at his mellowest intensity and it's easy to tolerate his antics. Diane Kreuger is a beautiful addition to the film that pays well. Justin Bartha does what he can being a computer nerd and pulling fantastic stuff to help his friend. Sean Bean, Christopher Plummer and Jon Voight, are seen in supporting roles.

This is a film that will play well with young minds and with adults that will allow for the silliness of the situation at hand.

The mystery, action, and the music! Amazing historical film with very interesting treasure hunting artifacts.

An average movie

Honestly, for many years, I have been defending Nicolas Cage, arguing that he is actually a very good actor but the amount of garbage he has been making lately is quite remarkable. I know many of us would categorize this movie as yet another Cage piece of turd but it was actually not bad at all, at least thatโ€™s my opinion. Of course, it is not a masterpiece whatsoever but what did you expect exactly?!? It is and remains after all a blockbuster produced by Jerry Bruckheimer so if you expected something award worthy, youโ€™ll be disappointed. Personally, I have to confess, ever since I have seen Indiana Jones as a kid, I always had a weak spot for those treasure hunting movies and this one was not an exception. Of course, it never comes near the level of awesomeness of the original Indiana Jones trilogy but I thought it was entertaining enough. Of course, the plot was really preposterous and to try to make us believe that Nicolas Cage could be a scientist was downright laughable but it was never meant to be a serious flick, it was meant to be a fun feature and as such, it was rather successful. Furthermore, the action scenes were decent and the cast was pretty neat (Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, Christopher Plummer) so what else should you ask for? To conclude, in my opinion, I think it is actually a rather entertaining blockbuster and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre but donโ€™t expect anything amazing though.

National Treasure review

Since this came from Walt Disney Studios, expect a-lot of talking and virtually no body-counts. Nic Cage as the lead was a good choice and he tackled his character in a good way but, honestly speaking, he has done better roles but character-wise, this is one of his memorable. This is not a complaint or an insult but rather a comparison, that's all: Was it me or whenever Cage talked it reminded me of the "droning" riff from In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida?

Anyway, from the supporting Diane Kruger wasn't bad at all and was very convincing in her character and not just only an eye-candy extra. Justin Bartha plays one of my most favourite sidekicks Riley Poole and he did a decent job. Sean Bean as the main antagonist, Ian Howe, did a great job. In my opinion, one of the best memorable villain of quite-recent times. Probably the best performance in the film belonged to Sean Bean and he was a show-stealer from start to finish.

National Treasure won't be making into my greatest films list any-time soon but it surely is one of the best. Even the sequel wasn't bad either and I can't wait for the third film. I know I'm in the minority here but the National Treasure series is funny, fast-paced and quite-informative, just like any Dan Brown novel... come to think of it, it does feel like one!

7.5/10

National Debt, Pestilance and Plague.

What utter drivel! The DVDs should be collected and thrown into the sea. My time could have been better spent putting needles in my eyes.

This movie has the most far fetched and ridiculous plot ever concocted. The Cage/Kruger love interest is tenious at best and the psuedo science/theology spewed by Nic Cage is laughable. Sean Bean is the only notable addition to this film, in which Bean somehow avoids being dragged down by the raging black hole that is Nicolas Cage.

I only watched the entire film in the vain hope that the ending would be interesting..I was dissapointed. Like a 5mph Roller Coaster, this film is pointless and nothing like it promises to be. A poor man's DaVinci Code.
