Velkolepý epos lásky a prokletí, který se odehrává během 2. světové války a v období na ni navazujícím. Vypráví dramatický příběh matky a dcery a jejich zápasu o základní lidské právo - žít svůj život.
Krev zmizelého začíná po vypuknutí 2. světové války milostným příběhem baltského šlechtice Arna von Lieven (Václav Jiráček) a Češky Helgy (Vilma Cibulková). Arno odchází před sovětskou hrozbou do finské války. V jednom z bojů je raněn a převezen do německého lazaretu, kde mu Helga zachrání život. Prožívají vášnivou lásku, ale Arno je povolán do boje proti dřívějším spojencům. Volí dobrovolnou smrt. Z krátkého vztahu se Helze narodí dcera Dorli (Ester Geislerová). Právě dítě se pro Helgu stává jediným smyslem života. Musí svou dceru ochránit a pokusit se přežít navzdory všem útrapám složité doby...
Děj Krve zmizelého je rozvržen do čtyř ročních dob, které jsou pozadím pro strhující dramatický příběh, odehrávající se v divoké přírodě moravských hor, ale také v exotickém belgickém Kongu. Režisér Milan Cieslar barvitě a citlivě vypráví příběh žen ve vyhrocené historické situaci. Svébytně způsobem navazuje na svůj předcházející film Pramen života (2000), ke kterému také napsal scénář Vladimír Körner a který byl s úspěchem uveden na Berlinale 2000 a získal hlavní ceny na mezinárodních filmových festivalech Troja, Laon, Gottbus, Rimouski, Chemnitz.
