“I already saw this movie but since it was such a long time ago, I was really eager to check it out again. Well, I really enjoyed the damned thing. Indeed, for this movie, Won Kar-Wai mixed one of his usual doomed love stories with a film noir and this mix was quite spellbinding to behold. The material was actually pretty dark and gloomy but it was not as messed up as 'Do lok tin si' which was much harder to swallow. To be honest, as usual with this director, nothing much really happened through the whole thingย and most of the duration was about a gay couple arguing all the time so it can be challenging. "Evocative relationship drama, without the 'melodrama'. Wong Kar-Wei knows how to make 'em. What's interesting is this is often hailed as the most critically decorated queer-interest indie film of all time, yet Kai-Wei has often expressed his reluctance to consider this a 'special interest' picture. " I'm not sure if the level of esteem I hold for this film is quite the same as when I first saw it. But one thing stayed constant - that is Christopher Doyle's highly impressive cinematography. Despite my soft spot for the film, the much revered In the Mood for Love will probably be the one that gets the greenlight so I'm not getting my hopes up for this one."
