“To be honest, it has been a while since I saw this movie and maybe I should check it out again at some point. Still, I remember it very well when it came out. Indeed, it was at the time a big commercial and critical success, especially in England. Well, in my case, even though my wife really loved it as well, I actually had some mixed feelings about the damned thing. I mean, sure, I thought it was a charming and fairly entertaining feature but not much more than that, I’m afraid. Indeed, this tale was just seriously generic and the outcome was therefore completely predictable. At least, I have to admit that this movie was a decent debut for Stephen Daldry but his following directing efforts (‘The Hours’, ‘The Reader’) would be much more challenging and interesting than this movie” read more
