A Dog's Purpose update feed
“To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Lasse Hallström’s work, I thought I might as well check it out, especially since it was available on Netflix. First of all, seriously, when was the last time the Swedish director did deliver something really interesting? Anyway, even though this movie was apparently rather successful at the box-office, I didn’t really care about the damned thing, I’m afraid. Basically, it was a rather peculiar concept dealing with a dog going through 4 reincarnations which was already weird enough but, to make things even more convoluted, the dog actually remembered everything that happened in his previous lives. "Cute, Sad but also Funny, A Dog's Purpose knows who to make a good Dog film. Award: *Best Voice Acting in a Film (Josh Gad)"
"The film's jarring shifts from sentimental to tearjerking don't work very well, however enough scenes individually worked to make it at least a passable watch. 6.0/10"
"Anyone who has ever owned a dog is going to love this movie and probably shed a tear or two as well. It follows several lifetimes of a dog that comes full circle by the end. There is definitely an emotional roller coaster when it comes to this movie, and this time, it was done right. The feelings of transition and letting go are something that is hard to deal with and this movie hits it straight to home. It's heartfelt moments leave you crying your eyes out and the next you are feeling woe free."
"When: July 19th First-Time Viewing: Yes. How: DVD from Netflix. What'd I Think?: The film never quite hits the perfect balance of heartwarming and tearjerking, but is a fine and perfectly serviceable boy and his dog film. My Rating: 6/10 Other Notes: NA."
"20/5/17 Hugely schmaltzy tale of a dog who keeps dying and then is reincarnated into another dog in order to find the meaning of life. With Josh Gad voicing the dog, it soon becomes apparent that every time the dog dies, we are going to get the tears. For a film that had major problem with accusations of animal cruelty, the only cruel act was inflicted on the audience having to watch this melancholy tripe."
