Backyard Hockey - PC Games
Okay, okay, I know this one's a little weird, but let me explain. This game is so much fun and is incredibly easy to play; anybody could handle these controls. Sure, it doesn't have a complete roster like the NHL series, but it does have lots of the good players from the time when it was released (Yzerman, Modando, Cujo, etc.) and these are enough for me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, even if they're not a sports fan, just because it's so much fun.

Blades of Steel - Game Boy
Portable hockey games are few and far in between (especially back in 1991) but this one really stands out. I played this game when I was a kid and remembered smooth controls and awesome fighting, and recently I re-visited this game. it's still great. The graphics are nothing too special, (come on, this is the Game Boy we're talking about) but the game itself is wonderful.

NHL 14 - Xbox 360 - Xbox 360
Wow. This is the real deal of hockey games. If you're a hardcore NHL fan, like myself, then this is the game for you. I started my ultimate team and got lost in it, this game has everybody. It might be called "NHL 14" but there are AHL, WHL, and many more leagues of players at your disposal. Definitely give this one a shot, the graphics are right on and every hockey player worth talking about is in this game.

NHL 94 - Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
Man, do I love this game. At first I thought I was the only one who had a special liking for this one, but then I started going on the internet and I realized there are THOUSANDS of people who share my opinion. If you need proof that this game is legendary, There's 94 anniversary mode in NHL 14 because of how much people love this game. Even if you don't like retro graphic games try this one; you will not regret it.

NHL Hitz 2003 - Xbox
Yes, I did put this one at #1. I have never had so much fun with one hockey game. First I made a franchise (our team name was the cream), then I beat the game with the franchise, then I played tournaments, played a season with a real NHL team, and got records for all the minigames. Oh, and don't even get me started on the gameplay. The controls are easy; tap this to shoot, tap this to pass, hold this for turbo, hold that for a slapshot. Great stuff. Pick this up even if you hate sports games, it's legendary.

Ice hockey is my favorite sport to play and watch, so playing it on a system is obviously a necessity, but finding a good hockey game can be a little difficult. I tried to rank these 5 in terms of how easy the controls are, how good (fun) the game play is, and overall quality.
