Arachnophobia (1990)
When his patients start suddenly dying, Daniels suspects spiders, but no one takes him seriously because he's had a phobia about spiders since childhood. Arachnophobia builds a slow but relentless sense of menace and creepiness, mixed with a sneaky satire of small town life. If you're squeamish about spiders, this will get under your skin.
I can't remember how old I was when I saw this, but I couldn't sleep the night after watching it. I was still in bunk beds at the time and I was terrified of the spiders climbing up the ladder to get me :{

Alien (1979)
When commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts an SoS signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. After a bad landing on the planet, some crew members leave the ship to explore the area. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a call for help. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew do not know the danger they are in until it is too late.
I had nightmares about this one for a while. I first saw it when I was about 7, but it made me curious to watch all the others.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997)
Based somewhat more authentically on the Grimm Brothers' story of a young woman who is unliked by her stepmother, the film includes the talking mirror, a poisoned apple, and some ruffian gold (not diamond) miners (and they aren't dwarfs or cute). It takes place at the time of the Crusades, and depicts the attitudes of the wealthy and the peasant classes toward one another.
Much scarier than singing dwarfs.

Slither (2006)
The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America--somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town's richest citizens, Grant Grant, begins to act strangely. But when farmers livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy and his team, aided by Grant's wife Starla, uncover the dark force laying siege to their town and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth.
It freaked me out the first time I watched it.

Seven (1995)
This thriller portrays the exploits of a deranged serial-killer. His twisted agenda involves choosing seven victims who represent egregious examples of transgressions of each of the Seven Deadly Sins. He then views himself as akin to the Sword of God, handing out horrific punishment to these sinners. Two cops, an experienced veteran of the streets who is about to retire and the ambitious young homicide detective hired to replace him, team up to capture the perpetrator of these gruesome killings. Unfortunately, they too become ensnared in his diabolical plan.
I never knew about murder or anything, before I watched this. The starved druggy in the bed scared me more than anything, especially when they think he's dead, but he starts screaming. Now I can watch it without jumping, probably because I know it's coming, but its still creepy to watch.

Black Sheep (2006) (2007)
An experiment in genetic engineering turns harmless sheep into blood-thirsty killers that terrorize a sprawling New Zealand farm.
It made me afraid of sheep for a couple of weeks. I hated walking by fields if there were sheep in them, people at work thought I was being ridclious, as they had never even heard of this film :D

The daughter of the werewolf from AWIL is alive and living in Paris where her mother (from the first film) and stepfather are trying to overcome her lycanthropic disease. A trio of American tourists on a thrill seeking trip around Europe manage to stop her from plunging to her death from the top of the Eiffel tower and are embroiled in a horrific but often hilarious plot involving a secret society of werewolves based in the city and a drug which allows werewolves to change at any time... This time there's no need for a full moon...
The fist time I watched it, the scariest part was when that kid is locked in the cage in the girls basement and the werewolf with no legs is crawling towards him attached to the bed. I loved all the gore and the werewolfs hunting people in the sewers though, it was just that one part that gave me the creeps.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Three student documentary filmmakers venture into Maryland's Black Hills to discover the truth behind the myth of the Blair Witch -- and never return. The only trace of their disappearance comes one year later when their film footage, documenting their final terrifying days, is found.
I was about 11 or 12 when I first saw this and it really scared me. The second time I saw it, I was around 14 and it didn't seem as terrifying, but still gave me the chills.

The Amityville Horror (1979)
A real-life haunted house becomes a frontpage story in this tale of a family whose Long Island dream home becomes an oozing, horrific nightmare. The brutal murder of six people just one year previous causes the new tenants some restless nights, to say the least!
My older sister made we watch it when I was little, it was even scarier than her first boyfriend's haircut. The new film seems so much better than this one, but maybe it just scared me at the time because I was so young.

Signs (2002)
Colleen Hess (Kalember) is killed in a car accident. Her husband, Graham Hess, (Mel Gibson) is a minister, family man, and after her death, Hess lost his faith and quit his job. Six months later, Graham is living with his brother Merill (Phoenix) and two children, (Culkin and Breslin) living in rural Buck County. When they wake up one day, they discover 500-foot long crop circles in their front-yard. The kids think it is extra-terrestrials, Merill think it's pranksters, and Graham is not quite sure. But when weird noises and movements, terrifying news reports and one of the kids buys an alien-based book, the Hess family realizes that it just might be aliens.
I saw this one when I was about 13. I used to be terrified of dogs then, so the dog growling at the kids really made me jump. The rest of it just gave me the creeps.
