Ozu

Ozu thought of himself as a tofu maker, because of the stylistic and thematic consistency of his films. Ozu actually called Floating Weeds a remake and I'd characterize it as having a less distinctly different flavor.
Mr. Saturn's rating:

Good Morning has less serious themes than I Was Born But...; the boys go on a hunger strike for a TV set.
Mr. Saturn's rating:

Setsuko Hara's character is a widowed mother, unlike in Late Spring where she is the daughter of a widowed father. Ozu made many films where the main plot is the father or mother marrying off his/her daughter.
An Autumn Afternoon is my favorite variation of this theme; it's his final film, and my third favorite Ozu film.
Mr. Saturn's rating:

Sam Raimi
Evil Dead II (1987)

The remake is more satiric than the original. Evil Dead II remakes the first film in about the first 15 minutes.

A director makes only one movie in his life. Then he breaks it into pieces and makes it again. - Jean Renoir
Films remade by the same director, that aren't considered inferior to the original. I only listed films if I'm interested in seeing both versions.
I'm not interested in seeing the remakes of J'accuse, Spoorloos, or Funny Games.
