Now this was one of the first Disney films I ever saw and for what I've gather more girls are afraid of this movie kinda like how more boys are afraid of Pinocchio. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit freaked at the things I saw.
The Magic Mirror: just the way this thing talks is ominous almost as if he is a creature you would find in the dark sneaking up on you. Worst of all the emotionless sound of his voice makes him for what he is an entity a non-human with no remorse or regrets; creepy.
The Huntsman's Orders: Cut out Snow White's heart and place it in a box for the Queen. Okay I don't think that needs to be explained. God bless fairy tales and older Disney films :3
The Forest Scene: The animators had way too much fun with this one just feeding nightmare fuel to the kid's fear of fire. This scene comes right after the Huntsman's words of warning and I think that disorientation and sudden jump into this demon forest is very scary.
The Queen's Transformation: If you haven't seen this I dare not spoil it. The slow build up to this scene as the Queen formulates a plan and mixes the ingredients is something that truly makes you feel the black magic. For the time the way this was animated and put on the screen is top notch! The idea that a human could take the shape of someone else and be right beside us is very unsettling.
The Apple: Forbidden fruit reference anyone? This scene is creepy because it really makes kids believe that Snow White is dead that's hard hitting stuff for a kid's film. The funeral scene that follows is really more sad because of the tears from the dwarfs it brings me to tears each time.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
This film is fun and upbeat; charming and fun characters, big dance numbers, catchy songs from the Sherman Brothers, a flying Car :D and of course the amazing "Doll in the Music Box" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AnkLKjVXXk) scene done in one take brilliant! It's a fun family film with amazing music! But, then this guy comes into the plot. . . . .
The Child Catcher: This guy goes beyond creepy he is flat out scary and terrifying. Mainly because this kind of man can exist in the real world. A colorfully dressed up man who offers little children treats and sweets. All they must do is go into his carriage. Just disturbing but kids should watch this to know that people like this guy do live in this world and if you see one. . . . run . . . . run as fast as you can away from him!

Another Disney telling of a classic fairy tale :D (imagine a Fairy tale told by Disney) this is a timeless film the colors pop, the characters are fun and charming, the realistic life lessons are there without being too forced. This is just a great great great film! And contains nightmare fuel :D
Remember Stromboli sure you do that fella who has quite a hidden temper as it appears in the film. I'm not kidding you rub this guy the wrong way even a little and he loses it! He even goes as far as to lock Pinocchio up in a cage and force him to preform and when Pinocchio grows too old he'll actually make firewood out of him! That's just unsettling, but he's just the beginning.
Remember this unholy demon who is the reincarnation of Satan himself! Well I know he's burned into my inner child's mind. At first his actions seem to come off like the Child Catcher's; wanting to lure young children (only boys in this film) to pleasure island where boys can divulge habits society frowns upon.
Also, gotta love older Disney! :D
Drinking, smoking, and . . . playing pool which I guess was a bad habit at the time LOL yeah this would not fly today. But it's important to show that Pinocchio isn't perfect; he's just a naive boy and this makes him more of a character people can relate with because he makes mistakes. But anyway losing train of thought oh yeah . . . and the island makes you a jackass.
Wait WTF sweet merciful Jesus!!!!! Oh yeah guys don't pretend like this scene didn't f**k you up as a kid! In fact this is probably one of thee scariest scenes in all of children's cinema!
I believe this is one of the main reasons more guys (at least the ones I know) are more afraid of this then of Snow White because they are the targets.
But, on top of these boys getting turned into jackasses and being sold to the salt mines; we never see them again! Not once I know most of them are nameless except for Alexander and Lampwick but the frightfulness is still there! Who knows what happened to them they've all suffered terrible fates. As they were holding on to their last strings of humanity they cried for there mothers and all we could do is watch with glassed eyes of horror!
And last but not least we have Monstro the Whale the Devil of the deep after Moby Dick's own heart :D seriously this Leviathan of the deep was pretty freaky just the mention of his name sent little fishes swimming for their lives. The ending chase scene was actually really intense and you hope our heroes make it out okay. But, all in all this film is still a classic is it dark yes (not as much as the book though) but is it fun family entertainment yes it is! It's good for children to get some dark imagery and scenes in a film because if they become too sheltered from it; God only knows how they will react when they actually see something more horrific. Needless to say it's an excellent way to transition the kids into darker territory plus it's a Disney classic :D give it a re watch and share it with your children.
Also, allow me to re open your nightmare :3

Those films from our childhood that left dark impressions on us, gave us nightmares, made us push stop on the VHS, or just had one really WTF moment of creepiness in it I hope you enjoy :D
