Rain Man (1988)
Raymond is autistic. This movie drew controversy from parents of autistic children and disability rights advocates for being stereotypical and hurtful for people with the condition, but I thought it was a well-done movie for it's time.

A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Based on the Schizophrenic math prodigy John Nash. Considered an inaccurate portrayal of the events and of mental illness in general, but still a good piece of entertainment.

Buddy Boy (2000)
Francis' stepmother Sal is an amputee, and Francis (Aidan Gillen) has a stutter and a unspecified mental disorder which causes him to suffer hallucinations and obsessional behavior (i.e Catholic guilt.) Although this is a very weird and surreal movie, I found it very relatable because of my OCD and since some of my issues are similar to Francis'.

The Living and the Dead (2006)
James has an unspecified mental disability/disorder and has to take a lot of pills to prevent him from hurting himself or others. Not really a movie to see for the accuracy of the mental illness themes, this film benefits from great performances and an even-handed handling of the link between delusional disorders and violence.

Broken (2012)
Rick has a mental disability. Robert Emms does a great job at portraying Rick and his sadness and frustration.

Tideland (2006)
Dickens has a mental disability. Brendon Fletcher is good as Dickens but this movie is just off-putting and gross.

Aidan was a 'blue baby' and now has a mental impairment and hard-to-distinguish speech. Aidan Gillen creates a unique character and this movie is just delightful. I recommend it to anyone who can get it on DVD.

Any Day Now (2012)
A touching and sad film about a gay couple who adopt a youth with Down Syndrome.
