L'énigme du retour - Dany Laferrière
This is a strange combination of narration and poem. It's too metaphoric and pessimistic for me, I like to have it straight as it is and I don't need to read a book with a nearly depressed main character.

Le Vrai Monde ? - Michel Tremblay
It's a play and the story is just too heavy for me, there's really no hope for the characters, they're stuck where they are and they'll never change.

L'homme rapaillé - Gaston Miron,Marie-Andrée Beaudet
This was probably the most painful book I had to read! It's a collection of poems and I just don't get poetry, it's really not for me.
The story is interesting but there's a lot of description and the characters are not exactly likeable.

Contes et légendes du Québec - Alain Vézina,Annick-Corona Ouellette
This is a recollection of legends and short stories. I didn't have to read the whole book, I only read a few stories such as «La Chasse-Galerie» and «L'étranger». It's not that bad, the only thing is that religion is very present and basically, in most of the stories, the character is being punished for not respecting their religious duties or something.

Une Vie - Guy de Maupassant
This was surprisingly pretty good and interesting although I'm not used to this type of writing so I wasn't able to really love it.
My raimBow's rating:
I liked the first half of the story but like most of the books on this list, this is not something I would read just for myself.

Yeah....I really don't like plays and I don't like reading them either.

Yvain: The Knight of the Lion - Chretien de Troyes
Weird, and written in a language that I can't relate to but still enjoyable for a school novel.

En Attendant Godot - Samuel Beckett
Naahhh! So this is about two guys waiting for someone who's never gonna come. And it's a play.

This was extremely STRANGE.
This is a collection of short stories and some of them were pretty brutal but I enjoyed reading it.

Les Fourmis - Bernard Werber
This was surprisingly good. I mean you wouldn't think a book about ants would be fun to read but it was. There's a little suspense and when you realize what's really happening you're like «WHATTT??»

My mom read this book when she was in high school so she lent it to me for an assignment and I thought it was SSOOO weird. But now I want to read it again.

This is a great novel and for once, pretty much the whole class enjoyed it.

The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas
I hated this book! I thought it was pathetically dramatic and I couldn't wait for Tristan and Isolde to die so I was done with it.

Before I Fall - Lauren Oliver
I had a hard time with this book because the main character is very difficult to like and to relate to. She's one of those popular superficial girls who think they're too cool for school. But after a while, she starts to grow and to realize how much of a bitch she is so it's easier to read, because honestly, in the begining I wanted to tear the book apart and burn it.
This was pretty interesting although there are some pictures I wish I had never seen.

The Outsiders - S. E. Hinton
This is without a doubt one of the best novels I read for school. I instantly fell in love with the characters and the story so I watched the movie and read it again.

The Pigman - Paul Zindel
I don't remember much but I thought it was a strange book about a strange person.

Existentialism Is a Humanism - Jean-Paul Sartre
I really don't agree with Sartre's philosophy. I think he says his ways of thinking and his theories but he doesn't take in consideration the fact that we're humans and we go through a lot of different situations. For example, he thinks we're all responsible for our own essence and we all build ourselves the way we want to be and nobody influences us when we make decisions. That is wrong! The society that we live in and the people that are in our lives have a lot to do with who we are. I was literally insulted by what he said in this book, it's like he doesn't know what a human is. He thinks we're free to choose and to do whatever we want, but he doesn't get that the society puts a lot of pressure on people.
Now he really knows what he's talking about. He understands humans and says a lot of smart things in this book. The only thing that I'm gonna say is the real title is 'Discourse on the origin and basis of inequality among men' but I can see an inequality right in his title! Where are the women? I know 'men' is supposed to mean the human race, but to me it doesn't. Men means men and women means women. When someone says 'men' instead of 'humans', I don't feel concerned because the definition of man is «an adult male person, as distinguished from a boy or a woman». If it wasn't enough, throughout the whole book, Rousseau speaks of women like their only role is to be a mother and raise kids. YEAH RIGHT. They should reedit his book because I can't stand his hypocrisy. He's talking about the origin of inequality but he creates the inequality himself.
