Shutter Island (2010)
Scorsese is awesome, as always. Story leaves a lot to be desired though.
Mark's rating:

Kick-Ass (2010)
I suppose you could say it's a bit unfocused, but it worked well for me.
Mark's rating:

The Losers (2010)
Lame sequel-setup ending detracts from what would otherwise be pretty entertaining trash.
Mark's rating:

The Human Centipede (2009) (2010)
Was expecting it to be a lot worse than it actually is. Surprisingly restrained and a decent watch, but ultimately it relies too much on its shocking premise.
Mark's rating:

Iron Man 2 (2010)
I liked the first movie a lot, but not as much as everyone else. This sequel is absolute trash.
Mark's rating:

Starts off promisingly enough and it looks great, but eventually derails and never really gets back on track. Obvious ending that attempts to shock, but ultimately produced a yawn.
Mark's rating:

The A-Team (2010)
Way more fun than I was expecting. Exactly what I want out of a summer movie.
Mark's rating:

Get Him to the Greek (2010)
Not as funny as I hoped and it goes a bit too far in trying to establish deeper meanings, but it was entertaining enough. Standout performance by Sean Combs (or whatever he calls himself these days).
Mark's rating:

Predators (2010)
A fine nod to the original, but ultimately not that special. Still, fun summer popcorn fare.
Mark's rating:

Not as good as the first, but solid thriller/mystery here.
Mark's rating:

Cyrus (2010)
I'm not really a fan of wahjah humor, so I didn't love this, but it's solid off-beat fare.
Mark's rating:

Inception (2010)
Awesome. Captures that sensawunda feeling really well. Certainly a contender for best of the year.
Mark's rating:

Well made and executed, but too didactic and preachy. Could have been really great in another context.
Mark's rating:

The Other Guys (2010)
Not as funny as I hoped, but these types of movies always seem to get funnier when you see them again and again. Once it gets to HBO, I'm sure I'll like it more. Bonus points for TLC references.
Mark's rating:

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Great stuff. Perhaps a bit rushed and maybe some of the relationships aren't as fleshed out as they could have been, but still a wonderful movie (and funniest of the year so far).
Mark's rating:

Piranha 3D (2010)
Meh. Some things I liked, but ultimately a pointless movie. On the other hand, that's kinda the point. Exceptional underwater sequence set to classical music.
Mark's rating:

A Prophet (2009)
Sometimes long movies fly by without you realizing it, but A Prophet does not. It's 2.5 hours and it feels like it. This isn't really a bad thing - it's an excellent movie.
Mark's rating:

Machete (2010)
Not entirely sure this needed to be made, but it's a whole lot of grindhouse-erific fun.
Mark's rating:

The American (2010)
A promising start, but rather than build on that, the tension evaporates as the film slowly grinds its way to an unsurprising conclusion. Poorly paced and not much to it...
Mark's rating:

Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Paul W.S. Anderson continues to inform us that his wife is really, really hot. This time in 3d.
Mark's rating:

The Town (2010)
Surprisingly solid film. Not going to win awards or anything, but if Affleck can continue to make these kinds of movies, I'll be happy.
Mark's rating:

Freakonomics (2010)
Standout segment on Sumo wrestling, but otherwise a bit muddled. Would probably make a good book (wait a tick!)
Mark's rating:

Catfish (2010)
Went into this completely blind. Thought it was really interesting, but I'm not sure how "real" it is. It probably doesn't matter though.
Mark's rating:

The Social Network (2010)
Was not excited for this, but I loved it. I shouldn't be surprised, given the talent involved, but here we are.
Mark's rating:

Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
It's a little too slick and redundant for its own good, but it's not devoid of value and there's something about the premise that just gets under my skin.
Mark's rating:

Jackass 3 (2010)
As this series has progressed, it's gotten more disgusting and mean-spirited, but the magic is still there.
Mark's rating:

Mixed feelings. Solid concept, but the mumblecore improvised dialogue kinda left the characters flat, which is bad considering the characters were the focus (as opposed to the Monsters)
Mark's rating:

She's Out of My League (2010)
A diverting and fun enough watch, but nothing super special.
Mark's rating:

Unstoppable (2010)
It's not a train, it's a missile the size of the Chrystler building. (I liked it more than I thought I would.)
Mark's rating:

A bit repetitive, but still satisfying, even if I kinda knew where it was going.
Mark's rating:

Winter's Bone (2010)
A little too long and slowly paced, but otherwise fantastic performances and a very real drama that doesn't hit you over the head with despair the way a lot of films like this would...
Mark's rating:

Skyline (2010)
Breathtakingly stupid. Almost worth it for the ridiculous ending. Also, the Brothers Strause seem to have quite a thing for torturing pregnant women.
Mark's rating:

Best Worst Movie (2009)
A little repetitive, but an interesting look at how the worst rated movie of all time gained a cult following. Also a bit repetitive.
Mark's rating:

Solid and entertaining enough, but I can't really shake the feeling of filmmakers simply going through the motions. This might be due to the unnecessary splitting of the film into two parts...
Mark's rating:

The Ghost Writer (2010)
Reasonably well done, but I find it hard to focus due to Polanski's offscreen shenanigans (i.e. child rape).
Mark's rating:

Love & Other Drugs (2010)
Cliched, but not entirely devoid of interest. Plus, nudity.
Mark's rating:

127 Hours (2011)
Surprisingly energetic, a great sense of location and scale, a good performance, and human optimism anchor this film. Not flawless (in particular, a bit too much in the way of flashback/hallucination), but given the difficult subject matter, it's great.
Mark's rating:

Cropsey (2009)
Ostensibly about an urban legend, this doc ends up focusing on a series of child disappearances and the man the community pinned the blame on. Reminds me a bit of Errol Morris' docs, but then, that's a bad thing because most of what Morris does is better than this...
Mark's rating:

Very slickly produced documentary about Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and his Arizona winery. There are a few small missteps, but otherwise fantastic.
