Criminal (2004)
This movie is probably the second most underrated movie in this entire list. It does not get the credit it deserves. It is really entertaining and creative. I won't spoil the end for you, but if you are a Conspiracy movie type of person I recommend you this movie.
The Critic's rating:
This movie is the absolute definition for underrated. This is the MOST underrated movie in the entire list and quite possibly in the entire world. I understand why people think so lowly of it: too long (it is a three piece movie, how do you expect it not be long) and a bit too childish (it is not childish, its called FANTASY). If you're interested in Fantasy/Fiction you will love this movie.
The Critic's rating:
Surf's Up (2007)
This movie is a family film that you cannot miss. Its entertaining, creative, and splendid. The main character Cody Maverick is the person that everybody can relate to. This film is way better than Happy Feet, no offense.
The Critic's rating:
I Am Number Four (2011)
This has the typical "I am not from this planet, I have to keep a low profile because my enemies are hunting me down, I have super powers and I fell in love with a human." OLD!..... and still this movie found a way to reach a new level and make that typical story thrilling and exciting. Excellent Sci-Fi film.
The Critic's rating:
Wow! Talk about brotherhood going completely negatively wrong. This drama will very much make you love the family you have. This is SERIOUSLY good! Many people judge it for being "too mexican" and "too old" but you know what? It doesn't get better than this.
The Critic's rating:
This movie is funny. No, this movie is extremely funny. No... This movie is completely, super, extra, exaggerating funny. Did I mention this movie's funny. It is awesomely awesome. You MUST not miss this... except, if you're a kid. Really kids, this movie is not for you.
The Critic's rating:
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Hmm. Think funny+creative+awesome+funny+cool+funny. This movie, although directed towards teenagers and kids, is not so much of a pain to watch for any age. Completely recommended for anyone (except old people who don't like loud, funny, creative, and comical movies).
The Critic's rating:
Come on! Who doesn't love dragons? Who doesn't like Vikings? Who doesn't hate evil crowds who think they're right but couldn't be any more wrong? This movie is great. The end is shocking, surprising and actually a bit touching.
The Critic's rating:
The Rite (2011)
Ohh. Much better than The Exorcist. People criticize it for "lack of chills" and "not scary enough." What they don't seem to realize is that it is based on REAL EVENTS! Real life doesn't have "spinning head and green soup" (direct quote from the movie The Rite). This is as real (and entertaining) as real life gets.
The Critic's rating:
This is a new concept for a super hero film. The movie is brand new and it has already been nominated for 12 awards and won 1 for Best Superhero at the 2011 Scream Awards. Lets think big here, Spider Man: He can throw web around and fly all over the place, mehh. Superman: Superhuman strength and completely invincible, mehh . Hulk: Make him mad, and he'll rip you in half, lame. Captain America: Short guy who can't get in the army, he goes into a machine that gets his body completely ripped and strong. He joins the army and becomes a complete superhero. What I like the most is the enemy: Johann Schmidt. That's unique. The end is great, completely open for a sequel. I can't think of any other superhero film this good... except one that will come in Number 2 in this list.
The Critic's rating:
The way this movie was filmed was unique. This movie will truly stay with you for the rest of your life. It has been nominated for countless awards and it is still being nominated to this day. This movie is considered the best film of 2006 by many. It actually won the Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture- Drama. THAT'S HUGE! Seriously, this movie is surprising and will become a classic with no doubt.
The Critic's rating:
Inception (2010)
Think Matrix+Alice in Wonderland. I know it is not a very similar couple, but that's what you get. Going in into your mind and walking vertically and horizontally from place to place, from hole to hole (and although I don't really like Alice in Wonderland, this movie is great). This is the type of movies that make Leonardo DiCaprio a legend.
The Critic's rating:
The Last Exorcism (2010)
Going back to the horror genre, now this film is scary. It is supposedly a found footage therefore real, although I don't think so. Still it is incredibly scary and entertaining. Other than the infamous controversy behind the movie's poster (gotta know the story guys) it was perfect and everything a horror film should be.
The Critic's rating:
This is a perfect example for the love from a father towards a son. It is the end of the world and the human race will now do anything and eat anything to survive. With no food available, they turn to cabalism and our main character will do anything to protect his son from being eaten and at the same time looking for a way to find enough food to survive. A very sad drama.
The Critic's rating:
In this movie the good guy is the bad guy and the bad guy is the good guy. It is really hard to explain, you really MUST watch it. Even then, when you DO watch it its hard to understand, but once you get a grasp of the story it becomes AMAZING! YOU MUST SEE IT!
The Critic's rating:
The Aviator (2004)
Talk about dreams coming true. Howard Hughes dreams of flying the fastest aircraft ever built, making the biggest movies, and becoming the richest man in the world. He accomplishes it, but at what cost? He ends up a crazy person with severe OCD. Perfect example of "be careful what you wish for." This is Leonardo DiCaprio at his best!
The Critic's rating:
Bandslam (2009)
"Bandslam? Really? As number 4? Really?" Yes really! Bandslam is great! It is not hard to watch at all. Look at the examples it gives the kids of today: be self-confident, defeat your fears, do what scares you the most, and of course, LOVE ROCK-N-ROLL! Creative, well-thought, and absolutely awesome. Bandslam rocks! Complete MUST-SEE no matter your age!
The Critic's rating:
I Am Sam (2002)
This movie, Ladies and Gentleman will make anybody cry. I don't care how tough you are, this movie will seriously make you cry. It is absolutely touching. You think the Titanic was sad? Forget that, check this movie out. If you don't cry to this movie, YOU ARE NOT HUMAN! This movie will make you love your kids (or parents) with all your heart. It delivers a very strong message!
The Critic's rating:
The Dark Knight (2008)
Let me make this short and sweet. The best superhero movie ever, period (although Joker was WAY better than Batman in this movie)!
The Critic's rating:
Finally, it comes down to our number one slot: The Shawshank Redemption! This movie is the best drama film ever! It is the only movie I actually consider deserving of 5 stars (or ten for some people). This movie reaches new heights, no... this movie has its own movie category. If you haven't watched this movie you MUST WATCH IT NOW! I mean now. Really, now. Like, stop reading this, get up and head to your local video store and either rent it or buy it, but you MUST watch it! Watch it on Youtube if you have to by parts or whatever but seriously, watch it! Its not an option its a MUST! If you're looking for the best movie ever, look no further than this! This is Hollywood at its best!
The Critic's rating:
There are some movies that make you feel cheated, robbed, and stupid. Those movies make you want your money back, even if you didn't pay for it. Then, there's some movies that once you watch them, they make you wonder, "Why the hell had I not seen this before?"Those movies reach new heights and become instant classics. But then, there's some movies that are extremely great but extremely underrated.
