Day 01 - A film everybody told you to watch
What an amazing performance by Maria Falconetti. I am still under shock. Plus Antonin Artaud in the role of Jean Massieu. A classic I should've seen much earlier.

Day 02 - A big blockbuster you haven't seen yet
In three words : humans are monsters. Actually, it was better than I expected. Animations are fluid, and though it's not, in my sense, a cinematic revolution, it is surely an intersting piece of cinema. A well done but classic epic movie.

Day 03 - A documentary
An ethnographic documentary about the little community of l'Isle-aux-Coudres, wishing to bring back the beluga (marsouins) fishing. Poetic and truly instructive film about past times and the transmission of old generations to the next ones.

Day 04 - A theatre or book adaptation
The casting is amazing and the dialogues are perfect. I laughed a lot but, already knowing the play, I felt that the audience was missing. Plus, the ending kind of left me on my hunger. Though, still a good film to watch.

Wonderful movie, full of colors, lighness and great music from Michel Legrand. Gene Kelly also makes an apparition. A masterpiece of the genre.

Day 06 - A science-fiction film
Watching this I can understand why the censors have been so rough on this masterpiece. One good piece of subversive cinema, using the science-fiction motives to denounce massive manipulation or power abuse. And the images are wonderfully constructed.

Day 07 - A film from a director you really love
I've been little disappointed by this one. Not the best Woody Allen I've seen, but I still appreciate. And the film noir pastiche is good in itself. I was happy to see Kathy Bates in a light role.

I heard a lot about Herzog. Maybe I'll need more to appreciate. I feel something good was in this movie, that I maybe ignored.

I don't know a lot about the mexican culture, and cinema is a good way to learn. The images go strangely beautiful with the music. A good piece of experimental cinema. I will have to watch more.

Day 11 - A slapstick comedy
Though the film seems a little bit old, I've had some good laughs watching this classic comedy. Gene Wilder and Cleaton Little make a good duo, and the presence of Madeline Kahn is always appreciated.

God this was a strange movie. The effects are amazingly poor, the scenario really simple, but I liked it a lot. A classic. It was not as trashy as I tought, but it's quite worth it.

This is a real cute film. The wonderful scenario allows Gondry to go as he wishes in surrealism, playing with parallel realities and repetitions. A touching and moving film.

Audacious for a "children" animation movie to have almost no dialogue. I really loved it. We recognize quickly the Pixar style.

A complex and theatrical movie from Raul Ruiz, which integrates the immobility of peinture in the "mobile" medium of cinema. By some ways, the scenario remembers me of Samuel Beckett or Marguerite Duras.

I heard a lot about Häxan, and even if it was quite interesting, I didn't find this as fascinating as I expected. But, from an historical point of view, it was an interesting summary of the evolution of the "witch" perception. Plus, the effects are particularly well done for a 1922 movie.

Day 18 - A film randomly chosen from you "want to watch" list
I loved this so much. That reminds me, in a certain way, the cinema of John Waters, with his emphasis on marginality, but in a approach closer to the documentary. Every character is wonderful, and the scenes and dialogues are particularly strong and funny. To watch and rewatch.

Day 20 - A movie you wouldn't generally run to see
I've had this Quebecois movie on my list for five years, I think, but never had the feeling that I really wanted to see it. Finally, I kind of liked it. The images are magnificent and the theme of Faith, if not really new, is well explorated. Elise Guilbeault is beautiful in this role of a doctor habited by guilt after a terrible event.

Day 21 - A movie from your country/province
In the vein of the new Quebec cinema (En terrains connus, Le vendeur, Curling), this film from Rafaël Ouellet explores guilt, compassion, family ties and masculinity in an interesting way. On the menu : hunting, woodcutting and mechanics. Even if it's not a revelation, it was a good movie.

What an amazing performance by Bruno Ganz. The film focuses on the end of the nazi regime instead of showing its rise, as many other films have done. The most disturbing thing here is that the movie reminds us that these quasi-mythological characters are, in fact, just human beings.

Hypnotic. Absolutely hypnotic. The extreme artificiality of the dialogues and the actors create a strange environment where silence is the key.
