Tracing its roots to the 2nd millennium BC, Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history. Alongside Rome, Persia, China and India, the Kingdom of Aksum was one of the great world powers of the 3rd century. In the 4th century, it was the first major empire in the world to officially adopt Christianity as a state religion.

The author, Diego Arroyo, is a Spanish art director and passionate photographer based in New York City. He travels the world in search of the subtle: a smile, a wink of complicity, that special look that reveals our true and intimate essence.
His challenge is trying to catch the story behind the eyes of strangers, the underlying magic that deserves to be seen and usually remains unnoticeable.
