Lara Lindsay was born Gladys Jacobs in Chicago, began ice skating as a child and found herself in the Icecapades, also other professional shows by her teenage years. She eventually got married to an interior designer, and they had a son together, born in 1963. Upon the break-up of her marriage, Lara began doing television commercials in Tucson, Arizona. Paramount's El Dorado (1967) rolled into Tuscon and she landed a stand-in part in the film. She was encouraged to head-off to Hollywood, plus obtain an agent.
