Ladytron have released four studio albums so far: 604 in 2001, Light & Magic in 2002, Witching Hour in 2005 and Velocifero in 2008. Their fifth studio album, Gravity the Seducer, is due to be released on 13 September 2011.
Their name was taken from the song of the same name by Roxy Music. According to the legendary musician Brian Eno, once a member of Roxy Music, Ladytron are "the best of English pop music".
604 is the debut studio album by English electronic band Ladytron. It was released in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2001 by Invicta Hi-Fi Records. It was co-produced, engineered and mixed by Lance Thomas. Some of the tracks had been previously released on their EPs Miss Black and Her Friends (1999) and Mu-Tron EP (2000).
On 20 July 2004, 604 was re-released in the US with four bonus tracks, the first three being live recordings made on 16 May 2003 at the Central Military Club in Sofia, Bulgaria. The January 2011 re-release of the album on Ladytron's current label, Nettwerk, also features these same bonus tracks.
Light & Magic is the second studio album by English electronic band Ladytron. It was released in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2002 by Telstar Records. The album featured a darker sound and the introduction of digital synthesizers along their analog gear. An earlier version of the song "NuHorizons" appeared as a B-side to the band's 2001 single "The Way That I Found You", under the title "Holiday601". "Seventeen" is part of the soundtrack to the 2003 film Party Monster, while its instrumental was used in television advertisements for Christina Aguilera's 2008 fragrance Inspire.
Witching Hour is the third studio album by English electronic band Ladytron. It was released in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2005 by Island Records. A special edition of the album was released in 2007, containing a bonus disc of recent music videos and the documentary Once Upon a Time in the East: Ladytron in China, detailing highlights of their 2004 tour across China. "Sugar" and "Destroy Everything You Touch" were released as singles. Some versions of this album do not include "CMYK" or "Untitled".
Velocifero is the fourth studio album by English electronic band Ladytron and their first to be released by Nettwerk. The album was made available on the iTunes Store as of 19 May 2008, followed by a physical release on 2 June in the United Kingdom and on 3 June elsewhere. It produced three singles: "Ghosts", "Runaway" and "Tomorrow". Velocifero became the band's highest-charting album to date in their home country when it peaked at number seventy-five on the UK Albums Chart. It was also their first album to chart on the US Billboard 200, reaching number 131.
According to band member Reuben Wu, "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed", and is also the name of a classic retro-styled scooter. "Black Cat" and "Kletva" are both sung entirely in Bulgarian. "Kletva" (which means "oath") is a cover of a song from a solo album by Kiril Marichkov of Bulgarian rock band Shturtzite. Daniel Hunt provided additional vocals on "Versus".
"Ghosts" was released as the album's lead single on 12 May 2008. It reached number 106 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was included on the soundtrack to the video games Need for Speed: Undercover (2008), The Sims 3 (2009) and LittleBigPlanet 2 (2011), as well as on the soundtrack to the 2009 slasher film Sorority Row. The track was also used in the TV advert for the 2010 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. A remix of "Ghosts" by New York alternative rap collective Blestenation was released as a free download on 22 August 2008 by RCRD LBL.
Gravity the Seducer is the forthcoming fifth studio album by English electronic band Ladytron and their second to be released by Nettwerk. The album will be available for digital download on the iTunes Store as of 12 September 2011 in the UK and 13 September 2011 in the US. "Ace of Hz", which appears on the album, was previously released as a single from their greatest hits compilation Best of 00-10 and the music video was released on YouTube on 27 February 2011. In May 2011, "White Elephant" was officially released the lead single from Gravity the Seducer, and a video for the song was posted on Youtube on July 26th.
