Description: "Big" George Foreman is a retired American professional boxer, former two-time World Heavyweight Champion, Olympic gold medalist, ordained Baptist minister, author and entrepreneur. After dropping out of school at the age 15, later training in California as a boxer for a couple of years, he went on to be a gold medalist at the 1968 Olympics, Foreman won the World Heavyweight title with a second round knockout of then-undefeated Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica in 1973. He made two successful title defenses before losing to Muhammad Ali in "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. He fought on but was unable to secu ... (more)

People I find Inspiring (40 person items)

"Like many other great boxers, George Foreman came from impoverished neighborhood and had to beat impossible odds to make it to the top of the world. During his youth he was known as a man people loved to hate, a legit tough guy and monster. After years of struggle he came back and beat the odds again by winning the world championship, this time as a seasoned veteran and reborn Christian with keen interest in helping and inspiring people, especially children."

In Praise of Bruce Lee (33 person items)

" "Bruce Lee was a good athlete and he could've been a good boxer. "He could have been anything. In his weight class, he would have been a boxing champion. I remember I was in Hawaii in 1973 and I went to see the movie Enter The Dragon. "When I walked out after the movie, on all my back I had chills on me! I was the heavyweight champion of the world, by the way, but all I could think was, 'wow!' I was in shock. He left all the audiences awestruck. Bruce Lee changed everything.""

In Praise of Mike Tyson (8 person items)

" "I called him Mike 'Nightmare' Tyson. That guy was a nightmare in the ring. I mean really, if he missed you with his left then missed you with his right, he'd bite you. *laughs* I didn’t want anything to do with that guy. No I didn't want him." When asked if Tyson wanted him: "No way. One (Tyson) was scared and the other (himself) was glad of that. I didn’t want a part of Mike Tyson. He was a monster. “I could really punch. And of course I was an expert at punching downwards. My manage"

In Praise of Muhammad Ali (22 person items)

" "If you put Ali in boxing, you won’t get what he really was. The life he lived outside of the ring, what he had to say, the bravery he had, made him what he was: a prophet, a hero, a revolutionary — much more than a boxer. It really brings him down to rate him as a boxer. He only did boxing to run his mouth. Whatever message he was destined to get across, he used boxing to do it. I mean, he could do the shuffle and occasionally throw a good jab, even get a few knockouts, but that doesn’t"
