Most likely my favorite 2D Zelda of all time. Its bizarre, dreamlike atmosphere reminds me so much of Majora's Mask with really tight gameplay packaged in a landscape filled with fun elements that surpass A Link to the Past.

This colorized version of the original Game Boy hit, released in 1998, is a side quest that deviates as much from the traditional Zelda storyline as the N64's Majora's Mask. The story is completely new and original, but the game system is largely the same as in the Super NES hit, A Link to the Past. You explore a vast island named Koholint, opening up access to more new and new areas as you collect special items and solve puzzles. On your way, you gather Rupees and heart containers, use your sword to defeat enemies, and push plenty of blocks around. The DX (=Deluxe) version features one new dungeon and GB Printer support

Possibly the quirkiest and most unusual Zelda game in terms of story and tone, it was a departure from the series' usual plot of save Zelda and Hyrule from an evil pig person and instead involves waking up a giant fish. "Another non-Ganon/Hyrule game. I fell in love with Koholint island and the people there. It was such a dense map with secrets everywhere! The idea of collecting instruments to wake up the sleeping wind fish was an interesting idea. And as the game went on, the secret behind the island became more intriguing. "
