Croc 2 - PlayStation

Like most sequels, Croc 2 is not quite as good as the original, but there's certainly enough of the first game's magic still intact to ensure its appeal. And that appeal is immediate: there's more of the running and jumping you would expect, but Croc 2 features a more fluid progression through the world, meaning you'll be travelling far and wide to complete the game. As in the first game, the graphics are up to scratch but some of the level design seems a little uninteresting, without quite so much fun and surprise as the original. Gameplay is more varied, though, thanks to the industry-standard addition of some vehicles Croc can use to traverse his world. If the first Croc--good as it was--was a tad uninspired and "samey", a less-than-groundbreaking entry into the platform canon, then creating an almost carbon-copy sequel was a risky move. It's bound to disappoint some hardcore gamers but for lovers of the first game--and lovers of light-entertainment diversions--Croc 2 is sure to please. --David Bailey
