Steven Spielberg's Tiny Toon Adventures from the early 1990s are animated cartoons that were created specifically for kids. This two-disc compilation features all 13 shows from the second season and the first 4 shows from the third season. Babs and Buster Bunny (no relation) host the series, and almost every "show" is really three separate cartoons linked together by a common idea or theme. Babs, Buster, and their pals Plucky Duck, Hamton Pig, Elmyra, and Dizzy the Tasmanian Devil are all young versions of their older Warner Brothers counterparts (Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Taz, etc.) who are attending Acme Looniversity to learn how to be cartoon funny. Classes at the Looniversity feature everything from cartoon physics to standup comedy and how to be a superhero, with field trips to places like the local fire station and slaughterhouse. This compilation includes several parodies of then-current television programs like Love Connection ("Love Disconnection") and Thirtysomething ("Thirteensomething"), as well as iconic 1960s references to "the Justice League" ("The Just-Us League of Supertoons") and The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show ("The Babsy and Buswinkle Show"). This set also includes the controversial episode "Elephant Issues," which tackles big-world concerns like illiteracy, bullying, and underage drinking, in addition to the episode "One Beer" (never re-aired in the United States), in which youngsters Buster, Plucky, and Hamton drink beer and drive themselves right off a cliff. While the latter episode is probably inappropriate for kids, this collection is generally fine for ages 5 and older, assuming a healthy tolerance for cartoon violence and slapstick humor. --Tami Horiuchi
